Encompass Health Erie hosted a Kentucky Derby hat contest in honor of the 152nd running of the race. Employees showcased their creativity by decorating or purchasing Derby-inspired hats.

The celebration included a “Walk to the Post,” where participants displayed their hats for judging. The event drew strong participation and created a fun, festive atmosphere. Thank you to everyone who took part, and congratulations to the winners whose hats captured the spirit of the Derby.

David Beaman, program manager for NASA’s Space Launch System, came to our Encompass Health Rehabilitation hospital in Huntsville, Alabama following a stroke. Prior to his hospitalization, he was working on the Artemis II mission. On the day of the Artemis II launch, his therapy team helped him celebrate both his rehabilitation progress and his contributions to the mission!

Four years ago, Paula Yelinek was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré syndrome and had to relearn how to walk. Today, she's a registered nurse at our Encompass Health hospital in Ludlow, Massachusetts — the same place where she found hope and independence. We are excited to announce that we will be building a new hospital in Post Falls, Idaho. This freestanding, 50-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital will serve patients recovering from serious illnesses and injuries.

“We’re excited to expand Encompass Health’s presence in Idaho to serve patients from Post Falls, Coeur d’Alene and surrounding areas,” said Kim Steward, president of Encompass Health’s West region. “Kootenai County is one of the fastest‑growing regions in the state and the nation, and the community is already underserved in inpatient rehabilitation. This hospital will help meet that growing need by bringing high‑quality, specialized care closer to home.”

The hospital is expected to open in 2028.

Michael Morris came to our Encompass Health hospital in Prosper, Texas after having a stroke. At the start of his stay, he was unable to walk or complete tasks on his own. Through inpatient rehabilitation, Michael demonstrated incredible determination and resilience. Today, he is walking independently without any assistive devices!

James Harrison was admitted to our Encompass Health hospital in Pensacola, Florida following a stroke. Upon admission, he was unable to move the right side of his body, required two people for transfers and was unable to sit or stand without assistance.

Thanks to the help of his interdisciplinary team, James can successfully walk and use both sides of his body.

Way to go, James! Thank you for trusting us with your rehabilitation.
