Summer Payer, LMT

Summer Payer, LMT Feel better - be better! I've been in private practice at West Lake Professional building since January 2016.

Before going out on my own I was employed by Ambridge Rose Day Spa, Rolland Chiropractic, Stonehouse English Teahouse and Spa, and Edinboro Chiropractic, all of which were excellent learning experiences that greatly contributed to the quality of care Summer I'm able to offer today. In the spring of 2013, I graduated the 1080 clock-hour massage therapy diploma program at Great Lakes Institute of Technology, and am nationally certified, and PA State licensed, as well as certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Professionals. For "deep tissue" work, I utilize the skills learned in myofascial work, trigger point therapy, and Craniosacral therapy from the Upledger Institute. Massage therapy has been used for thousands of years around the planet to assist and maintain the body's healing process, and in more recent times it's affects have been studied and tested more widely and accurately. It is one of the top choices for complimentary health care and for a lifestyle of personal wellness, and I'm very fortunate to have been able to study and practice the methods that allow me to bring this healing service to the public.

A question on everyone's minds: Does the message include my butt?"

Answer: Yes, it can. The gluteal region is often a key component in the proper tilt of the base of the spine which affects not only the muslces but also the nerves, blood and lymph vessels, and the skeleton including the cranium- don't you want your head on straight?
If you're not comfortable with that, you can just talk with your therapist about your concern and decide whether or not to leave that region out of the session.

Massage therapy is a complex and dynamic field of study. In general, when we say massage or massage therapy, it is with a therapeutic connotation. Its very basic meaning is moving the tissue of a person (or other animal). If the word therapy or any of its variations are present, it denotes an intended health benefit to the receiver.

Massage therapy is meant to help with healing or prevent ailing.

When someone goes to a spa for massage it is meant for healing. I work in a small private practice with a clinical approach which is also meant for healing. You should be relaxed while I knead and stretch the muscles or otherwise work to encourage lymph movement. You may be asked to more actively participate depending on the type of technique being used to address and change a particular problem.

Some people doze off, some talk about plans or stressors. Some therapists will encourage you to be calm quiet, others will be supportive of talking related, or not, to the main goal of the sessions. Some talking such as reporting tenderness or other experiences during the sessions are necessary, and need to be shared and not avoided. In massage therapy, don't be silent about pain. It's all part of the process.

Be sure to communicate with your therapist about your whole experience so they are able to tailor the sessions and treatment plan in order to properly serve you.

Thanks. I'll see you soon.

Massage therapy is used to decrease or eliminate pain for many people. More than one session is strongly recommended and has shown to have better and lasting results, however there have been many cases where just one session has made a significant difference with decreased pain and improved range of motion.
