In honor of what would have been the 99th birthday of Mother Mary Beth Kennedy this August 14th, Mayor Schember has proclaimed August 2025 as Human Kindness Month in the city of Erie.

Mother Kennedy and her husband, the Reverend Charles Kennedy, Sr., established the Community of Caring, an emergency shelter. They helped anyone who needed a place to stay, provided them with food, and left of legacy of kindness that endures today.

Mayor Schember encourages businesses, civic and service organizations, and all residents, to join with the City of Erie by doing some act of kindness each day of the month of the August. By celebrating each day with an act of kindness, you may be helping your friends, family, and neighbors when they need it the most.
