Why have multiple people DNA tested from the same family? This graphic does an excellent job of showing how DNA isn't as simple as relationships or predicted percentages.

Multiple links to one person. This is a big deal when looking at DNA. Sometimes you will discover an individual with an incredible number of common segments, even though they should be 4th, 5th or even 6th cousins. This comes from the same families in the same area finding love with their distant cousins. My cousin in the following screen shot was identified to have at least two set of grandparents in common. I did my research and found that they have at least FOUR sets. Yes, this person is highly related to me through all these connections. A rare occurrence, yet, completely possible. Name of the person was blurred out to protect privacy.

Go back. Yes, look again at dead ends, old pieces of information. The reason why you will find more information is at least three-fold. First, you will have more experience in looking at the data. Second, you will be better prepared to look through the research that you did before with new eyes. Third, if you are expanding your search you are now using other resources, DNA, FamilySearch, MyHeritage, FamilyTreeDNA, Geni, and so many more to inform your research. Not everyone has perfect information, yet, all of them have a piece of the puzzle that may lead to insights.

One of the greatest tools to support your family research is DNA. I have made hundreds of connections that were only possible for "the paper trail had run out" (that is a quote for Henry Louis Gates Jr.) I have found people in my very own family that were adopted, didn't know who their real parent was, or do not know they are related to my family. [By the way, I do, but that is another post] Here is another tale about how the truth will eventually turn up.

When a woman takes an at-home DNA test, she learns her biological father is her mother’s San Leandro fertility doctor.

The location of the people from your ancestry lines often changes. The social upheaval, religious persecution, economy, and migration often drive the people to seek a new place, an improvement, or opportunity for their children. In this case, however, the same family has stayed. And I am talking about a record amount of time over many, many generations. These are cousins of mine. I wonder if they will let me pop in for a few months?

Madresfield Court is a moated stately home which has been in the Lygon family for nearly 900 years and is currently home to the 29th generation of that family.

Finding the place of burial for your relatives is an excellent method to research your ancestors. First, it gives you an idea of the town, the area, and the circumstances. Second, it allows you to have a place or a specific location that if you need to honor them that you can return to. Third, in my case of the small town in which everyone lived for multiple generations, it is a glimpse into the family structures, challenges, and struggles. There are more of my ancestors in this particular place than any other.
