Today, we honor the brave men and women who served our country with courage, strength, and sacrifice.

At A Bridge to Independence, we believe in supporting individuals of all abilities — including the veterans in our community who may be navigating life after service. Whether facing physical challenges, intellectual disabilities, or the transition back into civilian life, no veteran should face that journey alone.

To every veteran: Thank you for your service. Thank you for protecting our freedom.

You are seen. You are valued. You are not alone. Not all heroes wear capes—some wear dog tags.

Supporting Families. Coordinating Care. Empowering Independence.
For families of individuals with physical or intellectual disabilities in Pennsylvania, navigating the system can feel overwhelming—forms, assessments, waiting lists, funding approvals… and doing it all while trying to care for a loved one. That’s why A Bridge to Independence exists.

As an accredited Supports Coordination Organization, we help individuals and families access state-funded programs like the Adult Autism Waiver, OBRA Waiver, Attendant Care/Act 150, Community HealthChoices (CHC), and Intellectual & Developmental Disabilities (IDD) services.

But our work goes beyond paperwork.
✅ We advocate for funding so that care is not determined by financial situation.
✅ We coordinate services with compassion and respect.
✅ We empower individuals to live meaningful, independent lives.

Every day, we see the difference that high-quality care and proper funding make—not just for the individual, but for the entire family.
✨ Independence is possible.
✨ Hope is possible.
✨ A bridge is possible.

Take a few minutes and listen to this very well presented plea for help from one of our valued HCBS Providers and great advocates for the individuals we have the pleasure of working with. Shona and her team over at Voices For Independence do exceptional work and most of them possess firsthand knowledge of the importance of these services to our individuals. Great Job Shona and team!

🎃 Halloween is almost here! As you welcome trick-or-treaters to your door, you may notice some children carrying blue pumpkin buckets. 💙👻

Blue pumpkins are a way to signify that a child may be nonverbal, have autism, or experience sensory processing challenges. This small symbol helps neighbors understand that the child may not communicate or interact in a “typical” way — and that’s okay.

This Halloween, we encourage everyone to be kind, patient, and supportive. For some children, trick-or-treating can be overwhelming, overstimulating, or confusing. A little extra compassion can make the night magical for every child.

Let’s create a community where all kids feel welcomed, included, and celebrated. 💙🍬

Halloween is coming up, and that means trick-or-treaters at your door. Some of them might be carrying a blue pumpkin bucket. Blue pumpkins are used to signify that a child may be nonverbal or have …
