🌿 It’s Spiritual Care Week! 🌿
October 20–26, 2025

This week, we recognize and celebrate the essential work of chaplains and spiritual care providers who offer compassion, comfort, and presence to people of all faiths — and those with no faith — in times of crisis, transition, and healing.

Whether it's holding space during grief, offering hope in hard times, or simply listening without judgment, spiritual care meets people where they are.

🌍 The Great ShakeOut: Protecting Our Elders During Earthquakes 🌍

Every October, millions participate in The Great ShakeOut — the world’s largest earthquake drill — to practice how to “Drop, Cover, and Hold On.” It’s a vital reminder that disasters don’t wait, and preparedness saves lives.

But for our elderly loved ones, earthquake safety requires extra care. Whether they live independently, with family, or in care facilities, we must ensure they are included, informed, and protected.

🛑 How to Help Protect the Elderly During Earthquakes:

1.Create an Emergency Plan

-Go over what to do during and after a quake.

-Make sure they know how to call for help.

-Keep emergency contact numbers visible and easy to access.

2.Earthquake-Proof Their Space

-Secure heavy furniture and shelves to walls.

-Keep walkways clear of clutter.

-Move heavy items to lower shelves.

3.Mobility Support

-If they use a cane, walker, or wheelchair, tailor “Drop, Cover, and Hold On” to their needs.

-Practice accessible safety techniques: sitting on a sturdy chair, locking wheelchair wheels, covering the head and neck with arms or a pillow.

4.Build an Emergency Kit

-Include medications, glasses, hearing aids, extra batteries, and mobility aids.

-Add water, non-perishable food, a flashlight, and a radio.

5.Practice Together

-Include elderly family members in ShakeOut drills.

-Repetition builds confidence and reduces panic.

In hospice care, we witness deep love, profound loss, and quiet strength every single day. But even the strongest hearts need space to rest and heal.

Hospice is about honoring life, and that includes the emotional journey of everyone involved.

☕️ International Coffee Day – A Moment to Remember ☕️

Today is International Coffee Day, a time to celebrate one of the world’s most beloved beverages. But beyond the aroma and warmth of a good cup, coffee has always been more than just a drink — it’s a connection.

It’s the early morning ritual shared with a parent.
The late-night talks with a best friend.
The quiet moments of reflection, when you miss someone who’s no longer here.

Today, let’s pause for more than just a sip.

Let’s raise our mugs in memory of the loved ones who’ve passed — those whose laughter once echoed across kitchen tables and whose presence still lingers in the quiet moments. Let this cup be a toast to them. ☕️
