💥💥Why Our Community Needs The Gathering Place: A Perspective on Meaningful Occupations💥💥
As an occupational therapist, I see firsthand every day that healthy aging isn't just about physical strength—it’s about purpose, connection, and engaging in meaningful occupations.
"Occupations" are the everyday activities that fill our time and give our lives meaning, such as socializing, crafting, cooking, playing, learning, exercising,or even volunteering. When these are taken away, particularly in our senior years, it leads to isolation, rapid functional decline, and a loss of identity.
The Gathering Place in Cobleskill is not just a "nice-to-have" amenity—it is a healthcare resource for our community. For five years, they have provided a space where adults can find that sense of belonging and purpose, preventing the loneliness that the CDC highlights as a major risk factor for dementia and heart disease. Currently, they are experiencing a financial hardship!! Please see attached post for details if you would like to help them!!
