Starting a new week can feel daunting. Add that to the general chaos and unstructured vibes of summer ☀️ and it can sometimes feel like we’re hanging on by a string.
It is SO critical to keep showing up for ourselves. If figuring out how to do so amidst the chaos of every day feels overwhelming, here are a few ways to get started. Nothing big, nothing revolutionary. Just small, simple actions that benefit you now and in the long run:
1. Identify one thing you can do tonight to make easier, and do it. Pack lunches, lay out your workout and work clothes, prep the coffee, put the trash bins out… whatever it is, pick one thing and cross it off the list.
2. Do you have that “thing” you’ve been meaning to ask your doctor about? A twinge that won’t go away? A mole that showed up one pool day? Is your annual wellness visit overdue? The stress of the thing you have to do is often more paralyzing than the actual thing itself. So just make the appointment (direct primary care makes it easy to do so 😊).
3. Move your body every day. Take a 60 minute yoga class or a 10 minute walk or play some pickleball. Whatever you can make happen, do it for yourself. Don’t get bogged down in what an influencer tells you that you should be doing. Just do what feels good for you. Your current AND future self will thank you.
4. Daily social connections offer a host of mental, physical, and emotional benefits. It doesn’t have to always be in-person. Send a text to a friend, amp up your coworker with a positive Slack message. Hug your kiddo. Go for a walk with your partner after dinner. Say thank you to your mail person.
5. Most people do not get enough protein. It is a vital nutrient that keeps our brains, bodies, and muscles healthy in so many different ways. Should you set a goal with specific numbers, with a professional? Probably. But show up for yourself and start small by setting a goal to just eat *some* protein for yourself this week, and then use that momentum to keep building.
Let me know: what’s one way you will show up for yourself this week? 💬
