Taking a little break from the studio this week. F + O needed some sun.

Seriously trying to practice what I preach by staying present. But man is it hard.

Normally I try practicing micro doses of presence throughout the day, which I'm far more successful at. (All of my clients are familiar with how much attention I pay to the blue cup when I wash the dishes, LOL).

But trying to continuously refocus my attention away from work and to the present while I'm on vacation is a whole other ball game.

I keep reminding myself that I'll actually be more regulated (and productive) if I put the work thoughts away for a few days (it's true!). But gosh that seems so counterintuitive it's hard to wrap my head around. Still, I'll give it a whirl.

Back at it Monday with a 5:15PM Resilience Ride- see y'all then 🩶

Quick mindfulness break? Step outside. No music. No phone. No distraction. Simply notice.

✅ What do you smell? Hear? See?

✅ How are you feeling?

✅Where are your thoughts taking you? (Just notice, no judgments please!)

I've been asking this question a lot lately in both individual client meetings and movement groups.

So much of what we focus on in therapy settings tends to be problems.

What if we also focus on enhancing well-being and thriving by exploring what works, what is right, and what can be nurtured?

What are your strengths, resources, values, hopes? You might not realize it yet, but in the midst of the problems, these spots of light are already there. Get curious. Stay open.

And if you're not in a space where you can access these just yet, don't give up. Instead, start by asking yourself, what's one thing that doesn't stink? Just that one question can be powerful on its own, and more easily accessed on the days where everything seems dark.

All Flow Space MOVE! Groups feature a trauma-informed entryway into movement AND mindfulness skills for stress reduction.

They're also led by a licensed therapist, health educator and group ex instructor (me!). This practice is my way of getting those yaya's out while learning real skills to take out into the world. Why not?

Hope to see you soon!

Healthy Bodies, Healthy Minds.

Soul Strength VT believes in a whole person approach to better health and well-being. To that end, Soul Strength VT provides integrative counseling and wellness programming via individual, group and workshop formats. Soul Strength services may be helpful for those looking to improve mental/physical health, capacity for stress management, as well as those feeling burnt out and in need of a boost.

Hi, I’m Kate, founder of Soul Strength VT. I’m a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Certified Health Education Specialist, and Certified Personal Trainer/Group Exercise Instructor. I specialize in the crossover between mental and physical health.

I became interested in this “crossover” work shortly after graduating from college. On a whim, I decided to take up jogging. After a few days, I noticed how good I felt- not only in my body, but in my head as well. Exercise led to better eating habits, which led to better sleep, and on and on. I loved how these habits provided me with a sense of overall well being, on top of boosting my self esteem and confidence. Additionally, I found fitness to be a perfect outlet for mindfulness practice, and therefore, it became my “therapy”. Not to mention the benefits to my physical health.

I loved learning about the connections between mental, physical and social health. Having already started my career in community mental health, I thought, why not focus on “all” instead of focusing on “one”? I decided to pursue two graduate degrees- 1 in Mental Health Counseling and Behavioral Medicine, and the other in Health Sciences-as well as training in exercise science, allowing me to better understand the biopsychosocial connection, and work with people to achieve greater health and well being.
