Remember to always be respectful of those living with dementia. They've led rich lives full of experiences which have shaped them into who they are today; having a disease does not make them "less than" anyone else. They may feel lonely and isolated, so never speak about them as if they are not in the room with you. They can hear you. Being sensitive to their feelings is now more important than ever. Always show kindness and try to put yourself in their shoes.

Today is World Alzheimer's Day. It is estimated that nearly 50 million people around the world have Alzheimer’s disease or another type of dementia; hundreds of thousands of those are below the age of 65. Staggering statistics. Raise your voice, share the facts, and let's bring an end to this terrible disease.

Estero residents made sure their friends at Colonial Elementary School in Fort Myers started the school year off with full backpacks by hosting a School Supplies Drive! Here they are putting their donations together to deliver - so incredibly thoughtful! We love the bond these two generations share 💕

Hurricanes can change course on a dime, and it seems like Dorian may have new plans. The latest storm trajectory shows a change overnight with possible landfall now predicted along the Carolina coast.

Dorian is continuing to strengthen as it moves across the Atlantic Ocean, but we remain diligent in our storm preparations and in our commitment to resident and staff safety. We want to make sure the residents' routine stays as normal as possible to keep them feeling calm and comfortable, so life continues as usual at Autumn Leaves of Estero!

Updates will be posted throughout the weekend and the entire Autumn Leaves family is keeping everyone in this storm's path in our thoughts. While this isn't the Labor Day weekend anyone wanted, we hope you can carve out a little time for some rest and relaxation!

We are carefully monitoring the progress of Hurricane Dorian and are working diligently on storm preparations here at Autumn Leaves of Estero. Extra food, water, medical supplies, and prescription medications are beginning to arrive at the community and our generator is fully fueled and in excellent working order should we lose power.

As always, the safety of our residents and staff is Autumn Leaves’ foremost priority. Our regional and local teams are closely monitoring the situation and are taking all necessary precautions to protect residents and employees. Rest assured that your loved ones remain safe, calm, and comfortable as we continue to prepare for the storm.
