Detox Friday: the final post of our Detox Week, & possibly the most important one! If you originally thought the detox diet was going to be your biggest challenge, I hope you can see that detox foods arenโt bland/awful tasting, but can actually be delicious, warming, & savoury - what the body needs as we enter into the colder months. The lifestyle changes can be easy to implement: sweat, move & hydrate more. This last advice is usually the one my clients struggle with the most but with consistency & effort, these changes will allow you to detox from possibly the most toxic culprit within your body: ๐ฃ๐๐๐๐ฉ๐๐ซ๐๐ฉ๐ฎ.
1. Social Media: there is a lot of heaviness in the world for what seems like at least a consistent 5 years. We want to stay informed but that may be overwhelming with every post, cyber argument, & contradicting opinion. Taking breaks from our phone/tv will help calm the mind & allow you to concentrate on the only thing you can control: ๐ญ๐ก๐ ๐ง๐จ๐ฐ. Get in the habit of not waking up or going to bed watching the blue screens. Make eye contact with the person you are talking to vs the screen to create deeper human connections. And, be more aware of what causes you stress, panic, anger, & sadness and delete those apps, channels, or accounts completely.
2. Journal: give your brain a detox and write out all the things you are grateful for & want to release at least weekly but ideally daily. Journaling can be both a stress buster & your compass to understanding your emotions. It can also show you where you can further detox within your social life & your thoughts.
3. Forgiveness: this is the hardest one of all for many of us because we confuse this act with not keeping someone accountable for their actions towards us, but in reality we are acknowledging it happened & how it affected us, but no longer allowing it to have a negative hold over us. As C.S. Lewis said forgiveness โis much like crossing monkey bars. You have to let go at some point in order to move forwardโ.
4. Speak Your Truth: this means no longer swallowing pain or hurt or anger but expressing it in a healthy way. Expressing your thoughts and feelings in a constructive way can look like being direct, asking questions to better understand what happened, and provide honest feedback on what triggered you and why. By expressing yourself and not holding thoughts and emotions in, allow to to connect with others, improve decision making, and solve problems. And more importantly, builds resilience and reduces stress (which is toxic for our body).
