The real reason chiropractors, physical therapists, personal trainers, behavioural specialists, etc recommend patients initially come in for treatment 2-3 times per week.
Biological systems, especially the nervous system, do not change from occasional or randomly spaced inputs.
They change from consistent, repeating stimulus delivered inside a specific window of time.
That window is not arbitrary.
It is built into human physiology.
The nervous system has a known pattern for adaptation:
It requires roughly an every other day input of stimulus over an extended period of time to begin shifting toward a new baseline.
That does not mean you have to follow that frequency of care indefinitely or for months in most cases, but in my experience for at least the first 3-6 weeks.
Sometimes I sense patients think they know what’s best for them and unfortunately when they dictate the care plan , and they don’t get the results they expect , the blame falls on the doctor or the profession as a whole.
In our practice you will get our honest professional opinion, with no sugarcoating and no false expectations. When we work as a team that is based on mutual respect and trust, the outcomes are always better. We want you to experience long term relief and stability , so that you don’t have to continue searching for the magic bullet.

Cervical Spine Manipulation Remains SAFE

Each year, new research reinforces the same conclusion: chiropractic spinal manipulation poses no greater risk than other forms of treatment.

“Data] supports the use of SMT as an effective and safe intervention for reducing pain, improving Cervical ROM, and decreasing disability in patients with acute neck pain” (2) Diao et al. Systematic Reviews. May 2025 [https://link.springer.com/article/10.1186/s13643-025-02855-7]

This echoes a systematic review from last year: “no statistically significant difference in AEs [Adverse Events] between manipulation and control groups. All reported AEs were mild (e.g. temporary pain aggravation, soreness); no moderate or serious AEs occurred… HVLA cervical manipulation does not increase the risk of mild or moderate AEs compared to controls.” (3) [Pankrath et al. Pain Physician. 2024https://opus.hs-osnabrueck.de/files/7486/Adverse.pdf

And a new systematic review confirms what several prior biomechanical studies have shown: “consistent evidence that cervical SMT induces less strain on the vertebral artery, particularly within the V3 segment, compared to passive cervical ROM.” (4) Fagundes C et al. Clinical Biomechanics. Dec 2025. https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S026800332500258X

And… an extensive Medicare study of neck pain patients also confirmed: “Management with chiropractic care was associated with lower rates of adverse events than primary medical care. The prescription drug therapy group had the highest risk of any measured adverse outcome.” (5) Whedon et al. JMPT. Sept 2025 https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0161475425000028

SHOULDER IMPINGEMENT

Shoulder impingement (Subacromial Impingement Syndrome) is a condition of the shoulder that results in pain felt at the front of the shoulder, under a bone called the acromion process, that is often worse with repetitive or frequent overhead activity. Shoulder “impingement” was first introduced in the 1970’s by an orthopedic surgeon named Dr. Charles Neer, however, we have learned a great deal about this condition since that time.

Traditionally, this condition was thought to occur due to abnormal shoulder mechanics that resulted in some of the soft tissues (rotator cuff or biceps tendons, subdeltoid bursa etc) being pinched or “impinged” between two bones in the shoulder. This pinching was thought to irritate and damage the soft tissues of the shoulder, leading to shoulder pain.

However, recent studies have shown that there is ALWAYS pinching or “impingement” of those soft tissue structures any time we raise our arms above 30 degrees, and this happens in everybody, whether or not you have shoulder pain! This impingement is actually completely normal, and is something that is unavoidable if we want to raise our arms to any degree. Because of this, the notion of impingement being the cause of shoulder pain has been relatively disproven. Instead, it is now suggested that this type of shoulder pain is an overuse injury in which the muscles and tendons in that area are being overworked, and aren’t capable of keeping up with the demands that we place on them. Because of this, “shoulder impingement” is now called Subacromial Pain Syndrome.

The most common way to treat this type of shoulder pain is through strengthening the muscles of the rotator cuff and those that control the scapula (shoulder blade). Strengthening these muscles allows those tissues to properly deal with the stress that we place on them with our day-to-day activities, and will help eliminate your pain!

There are some simple things everyone can do to avoid problems with the discs that can contribute to sciatica and other nerve related issues and pain from bulging discs that don’t affect the nerves. Regardless, we want to do everything possible to avoid more invasive procedures like surgery or fusion. If you would like to learn more about this give us a call.

Whether it’s acute sudden low back pain or something you’ve been dealing with for a very long time, the key is to correctly identify the cause and source of the pain. We utilize a number of assessments to identify the source and then to correct the problem so that not only will we minimize acute flareups or prevent them from reoccurring again , you will understand how and why it happened in the first place. I use a combination of chiropractic and physical therapy principles to do this, including looking at the things you do day in and day out. Muscle tightness or weaknesses , how you sit, repetitive movements at work, mattress and pillows, pre existing conditions, etc. I will explain to you why you have the pain and how we can prevent it from happening again or reducing the frequency if it’s something that is more permanent .
If you are tired of temporary relief, frequent exacerbations, or not getting the answers you need from other practitioners, I would welcome the opportunity to talk to you about it. Estero Family Chiropractic 239-676-9116.

This is one of the best exercises you can do to help strengthen your mid back muscles, which in turn will help to improve your posture and prevent rounded shoulders or “hunchback “. Aim for 1-2 sets with 8-12 repetitions each cycle of “I-Y-T”. 1 rep is doing the 3 positions once . You can do this 2-3 times per week. If your back or ankles hurt try doing them on the floor lying on your stomach. I’ll post another time with a video describing how to do it prone. Go slow and focus on good form.
