Grit Freedom Chair
With a commitment to provide recreational opportunities to all, EPMS along with Rocky Mountain National Park and Rocky Mountain Conservancy proudly offer access to the Grit Freedom Chair. This all-terrain wheel chair provides visitors with hiking mobility assistance for the Estes Valley.

COSTS:

There is no cost for using the chair. The Grit Freedom Chair was donated by the Sam Schneider Legacy Foundation in memory of Sam Schneider and his love of outdoor adventures.

USER RESPONSIBILITY:

We recommend that you plan to hike with a companion.

Complete necessary waiver forms

Be certain trash and debris is cleaned from the chair

Return the Grit Freedom Chair in the condition it was taken out, minus normal wear and tear

SAFETY:
As with all trail users, we suggest that Grit Freedom Chair users and those accompanying them bring: water, snacks, sunscreen, insect repellent, necessary medication and medical equipment, cell phone, hat, seat cushion, weather appropriate clothing – including an extra layer for changing weather. Please note that you will be on trails without immediate access to backup medication and medical equipment.

TRANSFER ASSISTANCE:
Users should bring any transfer items they typically use. Transfer slide boards are not currently available. If the user requires physical assistance with transferring, a companion must assist.

On this day last year, the Grit Freedom Chair made its EPMS debut!

Since then, it has seen dozens of trails and helped over 100 people access hiking mobility assistance in the Estes Valley and Rocky Mountain National Park.

This all-terrain wheelchair was donated to Rocky Mountain Conservancy by the Sam Schneider Legacy Foundation in memory of Sam Schneider and his love of outdoor adventures.

Thank you Estes Park Mountain Shop and to all the donors that helped make this happen!

Exciting news ‼️ Our Grit Freedom Chair fleet has grown from one to FOUR chairs, helping provide even more opportunities for recreation in Rocky Mountain National Park and the Estes Valley.

Thanks to the numerous donors who found value in our chair and this program, which loans the chairs free of cost to users, we now have quadruple the availability for people wanting to expand their ability to experience our public lands. Stay tuned for an update later this year as we continue working to improve accessibility in the beautiful area we call home!

Want to reserve a Grit Freedom chair for your next adventure? Give the shop a call at (970) 586-6548 to get on the books!
