When patients tell me, “I thought this was just aging,” here’s what I say:

Yes, our bodies do change with age. But shortness of breath, a lingering cough, or waking up tired every morning should never be dismissed as “just getting older.”

There’s always a reason. Sometimes it’s the lungs, sometimes it’s the heart, sometimes it’s sleep. And often, it’s a combination of all three. My job is to help untangle that puzzle.

The truth is, lung conditions can overlap with what people assume are “normal” aging symptoms. That’s why so many patients delay seeking help, even as their quality of life slips away.

But here’s what I want you to remember: aging may change your body, but it should not take away your ability to breathe comfortably.

If your breathing feels different, it deserves attention.

If you’ve been told “it’s just age,” it’s worth a second look.

Because many times, it’s not just aging. And getting the right diagnosis can change not only how long you live, but how well you live.
