The Relationship
I believe in unconditional positive regard as a basis for relating to you. I prioritize creating a safe environment where you can experience feeling seen and appreciated. Working as a team to integrate and honor your whole self is the goal of the counseling relationship. The Process
Through focusing on your body, I will help you access your true felt experience rather than what you have been told you should feel. We will keep checking in with what is real in the moment, noticing your mind’s tendency to create anxiety or distress by projecting into the future or replaying the past. This practice of becoming present will support you in making conscious choices leading to more satisfying relationships and decisions. The Session
While stories of daily or past experiences may be part of the words shared, our focus will be on the meaning making that has collected in your body. Together, we will compassionately witness the impact of traumatic, oppressive, or unintegrated experiences. We will support your body and whole Self to digest the experiences, releasing the parts that can be composted, and metabolizing what has life-giving potency. We will hold time for developing your capacity to inhabit your body, tuning into and sharing your body’s wisdom. Our exploration will include consideration of how you have been seen by society and how that has impacted your understanding of Self. As a white passing woman of color, I am experientially aware of the limitations that result from racism, sexism, classism, and other systems of oppression. This awareness creates a foundation for honoring your experience. My Assumptions
I choose to believe in the human experience as a treasured occasion for tending connection (human and nonhuman), nurturing relations, and celebration of the opportunity to be alive. It is my honor to share the human experience with you in the counseling relationship.
