"we got the tongue tie clipped…so why is baby still struggling?”

here’s something many parents aren’t told:

✂️ a scissor snip only cuts the visible portion of the tongue tie and leaves the back of the tongue still restricted.

that means:
🙁 baby might still have trouble latching, feeding, and show signs of discomfort (that was me and my baby!)
😞 you might still feel pain with the latch and wonder why things aren’t improving
💬 and no one explains why it’s still so hard…because they don’t understand how to truly assess and treat tongue ties

🧠 A complete release goes deeper, includes aftercare to help things heal properly, and neuromuscular re-education to teach the tongue how to move optimally!

if your baby had a clip with scissors and you are still struggling, it’s not too late! we can help ❤️

cue the tears 🥹 i’m always so humbled when I receive messages like this and also feel beyond grateful. to be trusted in such a vulnerable and transformational time in a mama’s journey is such an incredible gift. i couldn’t imagine doing anything else, but hold space for families in their deepest emotions and support them while they learn to trust themselves as a parent and feed their baby with confidence ❤️

these messages always remind me what a gift it is to do the work i do…but more importantly, how emotionally connected i become to each and every family who welcomes me into these vulnerable and tender moments. becoming a new parent breaks you open in a million different ways and to share that with someone you’ve never met before, takes courage and bravery. i am grateful for each and every family who trusts me to guide and support them. thank you to each and every one of you. ❤️

just a reminder. if you happen to have a selective eater or food learner, exposing them to new foods doesn’t have to be grandiose cooking activities or fancy lunches. sometimes, it looks like putting in a couple blue corn tortilla chips alongside the chips they accept. life can be complicated, but supporting our picky eaters doesn’t have to be. let’s keep it simple 🤍

When you want to enjoy the sun, but have work to do 🤣 I have a busy week coming up starting with learning from the wonderful and knowledgeable , guest lecturing at USC to teach about embryology, infant feeding development and the role of the SLP in the NICU, and of course working with all my amazing families who are so dedicated to improving their little ones feeding and speech/language skills! I have the best and most rewarding job 🥰 It’s not an easy balance, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything!

do you have a kiddo who prefers certain brands and/or flavors? here is my favorite trick to help expand their acceptance…

Step 1: start offering the preferred option in a different container (pour snacks, cereals and other foods into reusable containers, so they stop associating the food with the label)

Step 2: start mixing the preferred brand/flavor with the new one at a 1 to 3 ratio. Slowly increase the amount of the new food/flavor and decrease the preferred one until they accept the new one.
*if they start rejecting at any point, just back up to the level they accepted and go a little slower.

Step 3: continue serving the food in a reusable container and make sure to offer the new option consistently (and keep offering the old one too)!

I have used this method successfully in therapy and with my own kids-including offering a different nut/seed butter when my son couldn’t have any foods containing peanuts at school due to another kiddo having an allergy!

let me know if you have any questions! 😉
