These past few months have felt pretty uncertain, and now health care costs are set to climb even higher. But here’s the good news: you don’t have to go without care.

Direct Primary Care (DPC) is a growing option that keeps the focus where it belongs—on the relationship between you and your doctor. For patients, it means affordable, relationship-centered primary care. For employers, it’s a way to provide attentive, preventive care at a lower overall cost.

Pairing DPC with a simple catastrophic insurance plan can actually save enough money to cover the membership fees. It also supports local independent medical practices and saves everyone—patients, employers, and clinics—time, money, and stress.

If rising costs have you worried, it may be the right time to look into a DPC practice near you. Hopeful solutions do exist.

Some 154 million people in the United States get health care through their employer — and for many, their costs are about to go way up.

Yet another successful AAFP DPC summit. Had a fantastic time catching up with old friends and contributing to this awesome brain trust of motivated intelligent patient centered physicians. Learned countless things from other practices, and hopefully provided some guidance for those interested in growing the DPC movement.

📣 At Clear Health Direct Primary Care, we stand proudly with our LGBTQ+, migrant, and vulnerable communities.

Healthcare is a human right. We are committed to providing compassionate, evidence-based, culturally sensitive care to every patient—no matter their age, ethnicity, gender identity, or background.

This photo was taken during Pride, where we showed up in solidarity to celebrate and support our trans community. It captures just one moment of advocacy, but our commitment is daily and unwavering. In the face of growing threats to healthcare access and misinformation at the federal level, we will not back down.

🏳️‍⚧️ We see you.
🏥 We advocate for you.
🩺 We will continue to care for you—with dignity, respect, and love.

🚨 Oregon Just Made History for Healthcare! 🚨

We’re thrilled to share that SB 951 has passed, protecting the integrity of patient care in Oregon — and Clear Health Direct Primary Care was proud to stand at the forefront of this fight. 💪

This groundbreaking law bans corporate control over medical decision-making. No more shadow ownership of clinics by out-of-state private equity firms. No more silencing doctors with noncompetes, nondisclosures, or gag orders.

🩺 What does this mean?

Doctors stay in charge of medical care.

Management companies can no longer dictate how physicians practice.

Physicians are free to speak out without fear of retaliation.

Patients get care decisions based on health, not profit.

Dr. Nicholas Jones, founder of Clear Health DPC, helped rally physician voices across Oregon and delivered powerful testimony to make this law a reality.

✅ SB 951 = Patient-first care. Medical freedom. A healthcare system that works for YOU.

At Clear Health Direct Primary Care, we believe that healthcare is a human right. 🏥✊ Last week, our team stood in solidarity at two powerful protests — one against the inhumane detention of migrants denied due process, and another at the No Kings protest, demanding accountability and justice.

We proudly raised our voices (and our signs!) to protect Medicaid, Medicare, and to keep healthcare spaces safe from fear and raids. Because access, equity, and dignity in medicine matter — for everyone. 💙

"An emergency protest titled "From LA to Eugene: ICE OUT!" has been scheduled for June 11 at 5:30 p.m. at the Wayne Morse Free Speech Plaza, 799 Oak St. in Eugene."

As a family physician and 3rd generation Mexican American, I carry the legacy of my grandfather who picked cotton under the Texas sun so his family could have a better life.

Today, I stand with our immigrant community facing fear and uncertainty. ICE’s illegal detentions during routine check-ins are a betrayal of dignity and due process.

We will be proudly protesting peacefully and supporting our community tomorrow. Hope to see you there.

Our practice is—and always will be—a safe space. Our families deserve care, not cages.

Immigrants coming to appointments at Eugene's Immigration and Customs Enforcement Office are being arrested, attorneys and observers say.

Clear Health DPC stands for science, privacy, inclusion, and healthcare as a human right.
We’re deeply concerned about recent federal proposals threatening public health access, privacy, and bodily autonomy. But we want our community to know: our values haven’t changed. Clear Health DPC remains a safe place for all.

I was asked to speak (for 3 minutes) on the physicians perspective of the corporate practice of medicine. If you'd like to hear the conversation between the previous FTC chair, economists, and legislatures on the impacts of vertical integration in healthcare I'd encourage you to jump on for this live event tomorrow morning. There is a lot to learn about the complex healthcare system. Clear Health DPC is only one of the ways I'm trying to pursue the change we want to see in healthcare. Conversations like these need to take place to inform local and federal legislation to make a system that works for patients and healthcare workers - not just the shareholders.

From the Economic Liberties Project:

For too long, corporate monopolies, private equity, and middlemen have been allowed to take over healthcare—driving up costs, limiting access, and prioritizing profits over patients. The result? Higher bills, worse care, and medical professionals being silenced when they try to speak out.
It doesn’t have to be this way. Policymakers can take action to rein in healthcare monopolies and restore power to patients and medical professionals.
Join the American Economic Liberties Project tomorrow, February 19 at 12 PM ET, for a Break Up Big Medicine virtual rally featuring Rep. Jake Auchincloss, FTC Commissioner Alvaro Bedoya, and frontline stakeholders discussing how we can fix our broken healthcare system.
📅 RSVP here:

Every day, more Americans are speaking out about how large healthcare conglomerates are making it impossible for them to access quality and affordable care. Instead of trying to improve the situation, however, giants like UnitedHealth Group threaten legal action against doctors who dare to tell the....

Love Eugene. While at the farmers market we stumbled upon Walktober. Plenty of awesome opportunities to get outdoors and walk throughout our community. Hopefully next year we can plan a walk with a doc event or two.

Today I had the privilege of participating in a city wide healthcare forum with some of the largest players in our community. These are all topics I'm passionate about and hope that by sharing my experience and involving myself with the community we can enact lasting healthcare reform at the local, state and eventually even the federal level. While I wish we had time to get into details, and more importantly solutions, I think it's a good first step and community discussion.

Thanks to those who can watch the entire community healthcare forum, but 2 hours is a big ask so I took time stamps of when I had an opportunity to speak (mostly for my friends and family out of state).

30:24 - intro
50:07 - physician shortage
1:04:35 - insurers limiting treatment options
1:14:30 - why did physicians leave Oregon Medical Group
1:50:51 - closing remarks

I'm working at getting better with social media, but this is just part of the work I'm doing behind the scenes to improve healthcare. Thanks for all the support from my patients, my friends and my family. Please share any thoughts or comments you have below and I'll respond to the best of my ability.

A perfect, unfortunate example of the toll it takes when insurance plans pose as healthcare providers. Unfortunately they don't guarantee access to care and it's common practice to have these outdated lists of "covered providers" to appear more reliable than they truly are. Fundamentally insurance is a safety net, and should not be relied on to access primary care - including mental health services. We need a better system than the one currently designed by publicly traded insurance corporations.
