Depression and anxiety affect millions of children in the US. The CDC estimates 9.4% of children have clinically significant anxiety, and 4.4% of struggle with depression —and these numbers are from BEFORE the pandemic! 😨

Many children are treated by their pediatricians with a combination of counseling and medications. But from a naturopathic perspective, the use of nutrition as a major intervention for pediatric mental health disorders is extremely underutilized in pediatric primary care.

Instead of sugary carbs, try trading a morning pastry for a colorful avocado toast with folate and B6! Studies have shown that the nutrients in this breakfast can help improve serotonin production in children. Serotonin is the hormone at play in both depression and anxiety, so higher serotonin means happier kids. 🥑

A break can be really helpful to refocus your attention if you experience brain fog or feel absent-minded. (I’m looking at you, moms!) 👀

There are more benefits to downtime than just increased attention. Giving yourself a little rest increases productivity, boosts brain function, and decreases your stress levels, keeping your heart and mind healthy for the long run!

What’s your go-to break activity?

(We’re big fans of taking a quick walk around the block with a pup when possible!) 🐶

As a small business owner and a doctor, words cannot express how thankful I am to read reviews like this. Hearing that you’re feeling better and are in better control of your body makes my day every time, and it makes me even more grateful that I chose this career.

As I continue building my business, every review helps build credibility for future patients and lets me know what I can do to better support your needs.

Having a healthy relationship with food is important—but building a balanced relationship with dark chocolate can have a significantly positive impact on your overall health! 🍫

Increases heart health: The antioxidants in dark chocolate lower blood pressure, reduce your risk of clotting, and increase blood circulation to your heart. This lowers your risks of stroke and heart disease.

Improves your immune system: Flavonols found in chocolate prevent the immune system from going into overdrive and reduce oxidative stress, improving your immune system’s ability to function properly.

Improves brain function: Flavonols in dark chocolate have a positive impact on brain function, including better reaction time, visual-spatial awareness, and stronger memory. This is because flavonols increase blood flow to the brain.

Boosts athletic performance: The epicatechin in dark chocolate increases the production of nitric oxide in the blood, which supports circulation and reduces the amount of oxygen you use while engaged in moderately intense exercise. This allows you to maintain workout intensity for longer.

What’s your number one reason for eating chocolate? (Spoiler—ours is the taste!)

Did you know that a high-sugar diet is a leading cause of heart disease and obesity? Too much sugar can also cause higher inflammation, blood sugar, and blood pressure levels.

Thankfully, there's a natural and simple swap you can make to lower your risk for all of the conditions listed above--dates! 🥰

Dates have a low glycemic level than refined sugar. Their fiber content also prevents a drastic blood sugar spike. Dates are a great source of potassium, magnesium, and vitamin B6!

Monkfruit and coconut sugar are also healthier alternatives than processed sugar.

What's your favorite sugar alternative?

Are you team matcha or team coffee? 🍵

The antioxidants and caffeine in matcha enhance cognitive performance, aid in weight loss, and reduce your risk of liver and heart disease.

While matcha is commonly made into hot tea by adding a teaspoon of the powder to a cup of hot water, you can also use it in recipes!

Here are some ideas:
* Add matcha to your latte (hot or iced)
* Blend matcha into your fruit smoothie for a boost of nutrients
* Combine matcha into your chia seed pudding
* Add matcha to your favorite mug cake recipe
* Make green tea ice cream using matcha

If you have any other ideas, we’d love to hear them!
