Avocado makes a great first food for baby! 🥑

Below are some tips on how to prepare and serve avocado to support your baby’s introduction to solids.

1. Mashed & Easy to Spoon
✨ Perfect for early eaters!
Mash ripe avocado with a fork until smooth. You can serve it with a spoon or pre-load baby-led weaning utensils so baby can explore self-feeding.

2. Sliced for Baby-Led Weaning
👶 Big chunks = easier grip!
Cut avocado into spears or quarters, leaving some peel on for a non-slip grip. Ideal for babies practicing hand-to-mouth coordination.

3. Mix It Up!
🍌 Add variety once baby’s ready.
Blend avocado with banana, beans, steamed pear, or even a little breastmilk/formula for added flavor and texture.

💡Tip: Always watch for signs of readiness—not just age.
✔️ Baby can sit upright with little help
✔️ Has good head + neck control
✔️ Reaches for food and shows interest
✔️ Can swallow food (not just push it out with the tongue)

🥑✨ Hello World! ✨🥑

This little avocado recently made their grand debut—and we can’t handle the cuteness!

Their parents sent us this photo, and we love it so much. 💚 We always appreciate it when families share these sweet moments with us!

Oregon Medical Group’s Center for Women’s Health Clinic may be closing. Your care team just shifted—and that’s hard.

In case you haven’t heard, Oregon Medical Group’s Center for Women’s Health clinic may be closing. The future of McKenzie Willamette’s Labor and Delivery floor is still uncertain, but we do know they’ll continue to deliver there for now.

We know this feels unsettling and can bring fear, frustration, and a deep sense of not knowing what comes next. The uncertainty around where—or with whom—you’ll deliver (perhaps over several shift changes) is a breeding ground for anxiety. But here’s the grounding truth: you don’t have to walk this path alone. Adding a doula offers steadiness. Continuity. A familiar face who’s walked this road with you before delivery day ever begins.

As your plans shift, your doula stays. We become your anchor in the swirl of “what ifs”—offering calm, personalized support through each appointment, each change, each moment of birth and beyond. No matter where you deliver, or with whom...Your doula’s got you. You stay centered. We hold space.

Shout-out and kudos to McKenzie-Willamette Medical Center. I was so pleased to hear the nurse ask my client their pronouns as part of their admission questions here in Labor & Delivery. Seeing and honoring people for who they are is good care. 👏👏👏

Today and every day, we remember the babies born sleeping, those carried but never held, those held that could not be taken home, and those taken home who could not stay. We remember them, always. Speak their names and hold their memories tight.

Drumroll, please 🥁🥁🥁

Three years ago (October '21) I opened a physical office for my growing business. That November the building went up for sale 🙄 and I've known that someday I'd likely have to move.

Two years ago (September '22) I embraced growth and launched Avocado Doulas in that little office space.🥑

Whelp, the building did end up selling and as of September '24 Avocado Doulas has moved into a new home!

We are now located at 2018 Garden Avenue in Eugene, OR
We've kept our warm and welcoming space in a home-like setting.
We're are now more centrally located, closer to Springfield and our local birthing locations.
We share a building with a Nutritionist and a Men's Health Center and I see potential opportunities to better serve our clients.
We also have more space available and will be able to look at small group space and events in the not-so-distant future.

Keep an eye out for an open house event where we can share our new space, catch up, and connect!

Adding a doula to your team ensures you get up-to-date, location-specific information to help you know what to expect and be up to speed on how things actually go in your intended birth location.

Who is this doula Rachel?

I had the opportunity to sit down with Go Mom Go Podcast this month and talk about myself as a mom, business owner, and stellar doula provider in Lane County, Oregon. Take a listen and get a feel for who I am, how I work, and why you need me as part of your birth team!
