💚 At Avocado Doulas, we believe every birthing person deserves support, no exceptions.

Recently, we spoke with someone who shared that they had been told by other doulas they would only attend births at a birth center. 🤯 This is deeply concerning, because the very heart of doula care is to provide unbiased, non-judgmental support wherever and however you choose to give birth.

✨ Your birth, your choice. Whether it’s at home, in a hospital, or at a birth center, you deserve a doula who respects and supports your decisions.

We’re here to walk alongside you, not to limit your options. 💪💚

Pregnancy doesn’t have to feel awful. While some symptoms are part of the journey, you don’t have to tough them out alone. That’s where doulas come in — offering extra support, helpful tips & tricks, and reassurance to make the “normal” but unpleasant parts of pregnancy a little easier to handle. 💛

Here are 3 natural nausea remedies we love:

🌿 Mint Magic – Peppermint tea, mints, or even the scent of fresh mint leaves can calm your stomach and help reduce nausea.

🍋 Citrus Boost – Sniffing or sipping lemon, lime, or orange can help cut through queasiness. Try lemon water or keep a lemon wedge nearby for quick relief.

🫖 Ginger Goodness – Ginger tea, ginger chews, or even adding fresh ginger to warm water can soothe nausea and settle your stomach.

✨ With doula care, you get more than just support in labor. You also get compassionate guidance through all the in-between moments, including navigating the not-so-fun symptoms of pregnancy.

Did any other nausea remedies work for you or your partner during your pregnancies? Drop them below to help another parent out!

Did you know we offer both placenta encapsulation and tinctures? You grow it—we prepare it to support your postpartum recovery.

Taking placenta capsules or tinctures can help with energy, mood, milk supply, and hormone balance during the fourth trimester—but they need to be stored and handled with care.

✨ Benefits:
✔️ Boost energy + mood
✔️ Support milk production
✔️ Aid hormonal balance
✔️ Help replenish iron + nutrients

✨ Capsules Use + Care Tips:
• Start with 2–3 capsules, 2–3x/day and taper down over time
• Take with food to avoid nausea
• Store at room temp (not in fridge)
• Keep moisture out—dry hands + sealed lid
• After 6 weeks, move to freezer (with desiccant) for up to 1 year

✨ Tinctures Use + Care Tips:
• Long-lasting option for extended support—may be used for years postpartum
• Start with a few drops under the tongue or in water, as needed
• Store in a cool, dark place
• Especially helpful during hormonal shifts, PMS, or even menopause

❗ Keep out of reach of children. These are for your use only.

☕🍂 Coffee in Pregnancy & Breastfeeding — How Much Is Safe? 🍂☕

As the mornings get crisp and the pumpkin spice lattes start calling your name, you may be wondering… Can I still enjoy my coffee while pregnant or breastfeeding?

The short answer: Yes — in moderation. For most people, 200–300 mg of caffeine a day is considered safe (always check with your healthcare provider for guidance specific to you).

To put it into perspective:
A latte often has less caffeine than a regular house drip coffee.
Specialty fall drinks like pumpkin spice lattes or chai lattes are usually on the lower end of caffeine, depending on size.
A classic 12 oz brewed coffee can pack more caffeine than you think!

✨ Some parents choose to cut caffeine completely. Others keep their normal cup (or two). Many fall somewhere in the middle — enjoying a cozy morning cup or a seasonal treat while keeping an eye on overall intake.

Whether it’s a warm PSL, a decaf cappuccino, or an herbal tea swap, this season is all about finding the balance that works best for you and your baby.

💚 Client Testimonial Spotlight 💚

Rachel is more than a doula—she is a pillar of strength, a compassionate guide, and a true advocate.

“Hiring Rachel as our doula was one of the best decisions we made during our pregnancy journey. What we couldn’t have known at the time was just how essential her presence would become when our planned birth took an unexpected turn and we faced an emergency C-section.

From the very beginning, Rachel brought warmth, knowledge, and a calming energy that helped me feel prepared and empowered. She took the time to get to know us, to understand our birth preferences, and to guide us through the many decisions and emotions that come with pregnancy. Her support was always judgment-free and grounded in deep respect.

When the time came to deliver and our birth plan changed suddenly, Rachel didn’t miss a beat. She was a calming presence in the midst of chaos—reassuring me, keeping me grounded, and ensuring I felt supported and seen even when things moved quickly and unpredictably.

Perhaps most incredibly, Rachel kept my partner and family informed and calm throughout the entire experience. While medical staff were focused on clinical care, Rachel made sure my loved ones understood what was happening and had space to process and stay strong for me.

Rachel is more than a doula—she is a pillar of strength, a compassionate guide, and a true advocate. If you’re navigating the unknowns of childbirth, especially with the possibility of complications, having Rachel by your side will be one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself and your family.” -Yael Oppenheimer

Avocado makes a great first food for baby! 🥑

Below are some tips on how to prepare and serve avocado to support your baby’s introduction to solids.

1. Mashed & Easy to Spoon
✨ Perfect for early eaters!
Mash ripe avocado with a fork until smooth. You can serve it with a spoon or pre-load baby-led weaning utensils so baby can explore self-feeding.

2. Sliced for Baby-Led Weaning
👶 Big chunks = easier grip!
Cut avocado into spears or quarters, leaving some peel on for a non-slip grip. Ideal for babies practicing hand-to-mouth coordination.

3. Mix It Up!
🍌 Add variety once baby’s ready.
Blend avocado with banana, beans, steamed pear, or even a little breastmilk/formula for added flavor and texture.

💡Tip: Always watch for signs of readiness—not just age.
✔️ Baby can sit upright with little help
✔️ Has good head + neck control
✔️ Reaches for food and shows interest
✔️ Can swallow food (not just push it out with the tongue)

Oregon Medical Group’s Center for Women’s Health Clinic may be closing. Your care team just shifted—and that’s hard.

In case you haven’t heard, Oregon Medical Group’s Center for Women’s Health clinic may be closing. The future of McKenzie Willamette’s Labor and Delivery floor is still uncertain, but we do know they’ll continue to deliver there for now.

We know this feels unsettling and can bring fear, frustration, and a deep sense of not knowing what comes next. The uncertainty around where—or with whom—you’ll deliver (perhaps over several shift changes) is a breeding ground for anxiety. But here’s the grounding truth: you don’t have to walk this path alone. Adding a doula offers steadiness. Continuity. A familiar face who’s walked this road with you before delivery day ever begins.

As your plans shift, your doula stays. We become your anchor in the swirl of “what ifs”—offering calm, personalized support through each appointment, each change, each moment of birth and beyond. No matter where you deliver, or with whom...Your doula’s got you. You stay centered. We hold space.
