World Wheelchair Sports World Wheelchair Sports has been providing competitive wheelchair sport opportunities and recreation

World Wheelchair Sports is founded, organized and run by people with disabilities. Many of our members are young people who were active in sports and athletics before a traumatic injury made using a wheelchair a necessity. Others were born with disabling conditions or are older persons who have suffered from a stroke, amputation or arthritis. Whatever the nature of their physical challenge, they d

iscover through our programs the excitement and exhilaration of independent movement. For many of our sailing program participants for example, there is a notable increase in self-esteem and confidence when they find themselves independently on the water along with able-bodied sailors. Several of our junior wheelchair racing alumni have gone on to win Olympic and Paralympic medals and set world and national records. Participation in these healthy activities is often a catalyst for many other positive improvements in the quality of life. Since our founding, our programs have included wheelchair competitions (such as the wheelchair events at the Prefontaine Classic, the 2008 U.S. Olympic Track & Field Trials and the annual Oregon Wheelchair Track Championships), racing camps, fitness clinics, outdoor adventures, sports expos and junior sport camps.

1. Top Section (Black Background): Features a gold and black logo with the text “PRE 50”. The number “50” is stylized with the Nike swoosh cutting through it, and the entire design has a metallic gold gradient, indicating a celebratory or commemorative theme—marking the 50th anniversary of something related to “Pre,” which is often associated with legendary runner Steve Prefontaine.
2. Bottom Section (White Background): Displays the logo for “SURGE PARA ATHLETICS.” The logo includes a stylized black eagle with angular wings and a red accent at its core, positioned above the bold red text “SURGE” and smaller black text “PARA ATHLETICS” below it. The design conveys energy, movement, and strength, reflecting the team’s focus on para-athletics

Today, in collaboration with Adaptive Sports NW, we hosted the second year and first named year of the Columbia Classic at Centennial High School in Gresham, Oregon!

This year was a great success, almost double our turnout from last year's meet. Not only did the athletes show up in good numbers, but they showed up and performed well both in the races and the throws.

A huge additional thanks to both Centennial High School for letting us use their facilities and to all of our incredible volunteers without whom we never could have held this meet.

I hope to see even more participants next year!

Tomorrow's the day! All levels are welcome to join us in this low stakes meet!

From Connie Hansen

With a completely broken heart I am sad to let you all know that Kevin Hansen passed away Saturday March 15th peacefully. He had been battling a severe bone infection after having major surgery. He was the love of my life.

Most of you visiting this page know what Kevin did for wheelchair sports in Oregon and elsewhere. He was most proud of getting young wheelchair track and field athletes included in their middle and high school sports and competitions. Kev also felt very priviledged to have trained many Paralympic athletes, quite a few who participated in the Paralympic Games in Atlanta, London and Rio.
His love of sports also brought him to introduce the disabled to sailing, boating and waterskiing through his program DisAbled sailing and waterfest.
Is personally thank all of you who have supported Kevin and disabled sports.

There will be a celebration of life held for Kevin. The time and date to be announced soon.
Connie
