There’s no cure for dementia, but there are ways to reduce your risk—and it starts with awareness and better habits.
🔹 Manage Blood Pressure: Aim for 130/80 or lower through medication (statins) and diet.
🔹 Choose Brain-Healthy Foods: Replace saturated fats (no fried foods or chips!) with olive oil, nuts, and fish. Foods high in potassium—sweet potatoes, salmon, spinach, avocados, bananas—are ideal. Reduce your sodium intact too!
🔹 Quit Smoking—At Any Age: Tobacco accelerates memory loss and vision problems. It's never too late to stop!
🔹 Get Moving: Just four brisk walks a week can help lower dementia risk—no gym required!
🔹 Sleep Better: Quality sleep supports memory and mental health. A regular bedtime and dark, quiet room help.
🔹 Address Hearing Loss: New studies show hearing aids can help lower dementia risk too by keeping the brain active.
🔹 Stay Connected: Loneliness takes a toll on mental health. Staying social and emotionally engaged matters!
Home care can help which each of these items! Caregiving supports a loved one's independence and helps our parents age with dignity and grace.... but as important, it helps reduce sedentary lifestyles, improves medication adherence, and reduces isolation. Whether it’s a companion for mom’s daily walk, making healthier meals for dad, or helping track sleep, mood, and vitals.... our screened and trained aides and CNAs can do it! At Comfort Keepers, we’re here to support the whole person—mind, body, and spirit!
