Adolescence can be a difficult experience for many children but explaining the process is also difficult. Here are a few tips on how to prepare your pr***en for the changes that will take place over the next 8-10 years of their life. First, keep in mind that these changes can be exciting and stressful for a child so it is very important that they are made aware of what is considered normal and healthy. Explaining that their bodies will grow and develop quickly or slowly can help manage realistic expectations. If you aren’t sure you are able to answer their questions, feel free to get their personal care professionals involved. As their caregivers, you may notice that they have a greater desire for personal space, privacy, or independence. This is normal. The best way to support your child is to set age-appropriate boundaries that give them a sense of independence while reinforcing safe and parent-approved practices.

Are the serving size and portion size the same thing? Well, not exactly. Serving sizes are recommended amounts for foods based on quantities typically eaten by people in one setting. Sometimes serving sizes are determined by the amount of nutrients as well as other ingredients in order to help consumers make healthy choices about their food options. On the other hand, portion size is the amount of food one puts on their plate, in their bowl, etc.

Looking for a protein-packed meat-free breakfast option? Make oatmeal almond or soy milk and add 2 tablespoons of chia seeds! You'll be giving your body lots of fiber, healthy complex carbs as well as protein to keep you strong, satisfied and energetic. If oatmeal sounds bland, try adding granola, nuts, berries, apples, and/or cinnamon to your bowl.

Here’s an interesting fact about our brains. While our bodies use our pain receptors to tell our brains we are experiencing pain, our brains themselves have no pain receptors. However, our brains (and spines) are covered by three thin layers of tissue called meninges which is full of pain receptors. Talk about irony!
