PANDAS (Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders Associated with Streptococcal Infections) is a condition that affects children and is characterized by sudden behavioral and mental changes after a streptococcal infection, such as strep throat. Symptoms of PANDAS may include tics, obsessions, anxiety, depression, and changes in movement and coordination. Other signs include abrupt mood swings, difficulty sleeping, and loss of bladder control. It is believed that PANDAS is caused by the immune system's response to the strep infection, but the exact cause is not fully understood. Early diagnosis and treatment are crucial in managing the symptoms and improving the child's quality of life. If you suspect your child has PANDAS, seek medical help as soon as possible.

The ankle is a complex joint that, when working properly, allows you to walk, run and jump—and do many other things.

The ankle is made up of three separate bones: the tibia (shinbone), fibula (calf bone), and talus (ankle bone). The tibia bears most of a person’s body weight when standing. The tibia and fibula combined with the talus give us the ability to walk, run, jump as well as do other actions. It permits movement and contributes to lower limb stability. Come visit our office before you engage in an activity that may put pressure on your joints, ankles included! https://www.trueconnectionspediatrics.com/

You know how you always hear about how important it is to stretch, but you never really know what to do? Well, here's a tip for you: show your ankles some love.

Are you looking for a new activity that helps you get active while relieving stress? We recommend Tai Chi, a Chinese martial arts-inspired exercise regimen. Tai Chi is centered around taking deep breaths and moving slowly and smoothly. Like Yoga, it can help improve your mood, decrease stress, improve your balance and strengthen muscles. There are different kinds of Tai Chi like the Yang Style (which experts say is good for beginners) or Chen Style which involves both fast and slow movements. Another great benefit is that it is generally considered a safe form of exercise for most people. There are plenty of professionally taught classes online but before you get started, we recommend giving us a call if you have any health concerns.

We hope this gives you some insight into what Tai Chi is all about! If you're interested in learning more about how we can help relieve your stress through holistic medicine contact us today!

Are you having trouble remembering things?

It can be frustrating and even a little scary when it seems like your brain is on the fritz. If you've been forgetting things more than usual lately, it may be a knee-jerk response to fear a possibility of Alzheimer's, but fear not! There are other reasons that could be making it hard for you to remember. Some medications, a lack of sleep, stress, and even depression can affect our ability to concentrate or retain information. They can even make us feel confused or tired, making memorization harder.

A good place to start narrowing down a cause is to come in to speak with your doctor. We can help you evaluate what factors could be affecting your memory.

When you're looking to exercise your body, it's easy to think of the obvious choices: running, lifting weights, and yoga. But did you know that your brain needs exercise, too?

One way to keep your mind sharp and your memory strong is by doing puzzles—even if you don't finish them! Puzzles activate both sides of your brain and increase your attention span capabilities. They also reinforce mental connections that allow us to recall information from short-term memory. Puzzles are a great way to relieve stress and can even be used as a form of meditation if you spend that time thinking only about putting together the pieces in front of you.

So today's challenge is simple: find a puzzle and start solving it! If you start this challenge, take a photo of your progress and tag us so we can see what you've been working on.

PANDAS is short for Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders Associated with Streptococcal Infections. It is a condition where a child's behavior and mental state suddenly change after a streptococcal (strep) infection, such as strep throat or scarlet fever. Symptoms may include tics, obsessions, anxiety, depression, and changes in movement and coordination. The exact cause of PANDAS is not fully understood, but it is believed to be related to the immune system's response to the strep infection. Treatment typically involves antibiotics to clear the infection and may also include medications and therapies to manage symptoms.
