Steven Coy Lafleur

Steven Coy Lafleur, a cherished member of his family and a beloved friend to many, passed away on September 14, 2025, in Lafayette, Louisiana, surrounded by loved ones. He was born on September 16, 1962, in Eunice, Louisiana.

Known for his quiet demeanor, Steven had a warmth about him that drew people in, creating a circle of friends who appreciated his gentle spirit and kindness. His love for the outdoors was evident in his hobbies; he found great joy in camping and hunting, activities that allowed him to connect with nature and share time with friends and family.

Steven cherished the connection he nurtured with Jayden Granger of Lafayette, a special person in his life whom he cared for deeply. He is also survived by his brothers, Raven Lafleur and wife Lela of Eunice, and James Lee Lafleur and wife Jackie of Ville Platte. His sisters include Margretta Bergeron and husband Donald of Basile, Nita Deranger and husband Mike of Basile, and Charlene Gatte and husband Carl of Basile. Additionally, Steven is remembered fondly by numerous nieces and nephews who were blessed to have him in their lives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Lee Lafleur and Alberta Bertrand Lafleur, who will always be cherished in his memory. Also welcoming him in eternal rest are his sister Brenda Thibodeaux and her husband L.J. Thibodeaux, his sister Abigail Gartmen, and his brother-in-law Paul Ardoin.

Steven's life was a testament to the simple yet profound joys found in nature and the connections forged with those around him. He leaves behind a legacy of warmth, kindness, and cherished memories that will continue to resonate within the hearts of those who knew him.

A visitation will be held at Ardoin's Funeral Home chapel on September 20, 2025, from 10:00 AM until 4:00 PM with a service officiated by Deacon Gary Gaudin at 2:30 PM.

Rev. Thomas Wayne Montelaro

EUNICE-It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Reverend Thomas Wayne Montelaro on August 29, 2025, in Las Vegas, Nevada, at the age of 78, with his family at his side. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Eunice on Thursday, September 18, 2025, at 2:00 pm. Entombment will follow in the St. Paul Mausoleum with Most Reverend J. Douglas Deshotel, Bishop of Lafayette, Celebrant.

Born on June 11, 1947, in Eunice, LA, Father Tommy was known for his love of people, his desire to all those he encountered, and his infectious laugh. He graduated from Menard High School in Alexandria in 1966. After attending the Notre Dame Seminary in New Orleans, he was ordained into the priesthood on December 6, 1975, in Lafayette, LA. It was his honor and pleasure to serve the Diocese of Lafayette and various parishes for twenty-eight years before taking an early retirement due to illness in 2003. He later had the privilege of spending time in the Diocese of Las Vegas and was an active volunteer in the Hospice program there for many years. He was also a chaplain and member of the Knights of Columbus and the Knights of Peter Claver. There will be a memorial service in his honor on Monday, September 29, 2025, on the feast day of the Guardian Angels at the Guardian Angel Cathedral in Las Vegas, Nevada.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Philip Montelaro and Annie Ferruggia Montelaro, and his older brother, Carlos Montelaro; his young sister, Sister Mary Margaret Montelaro; and his sister-in-law, Madeline Reed Montelaro. He will be deeply missed by his brothers, James J. Montelaro from Eunice, Dr. Louis V Montelaro, and his wife, Gail of New Roads; his sister, Frances Montelaro Fruge, and her husband, Harry of Eunice; and sister-in-law, Kathy Montelaro of California. He is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews, Christine M Barbour, Phyllis Gremillion, Gregory Montelaro, Jody Montelaro, Anne Marie Miller, Donald Fruge, Angelle Driggs, Philip Montelaro, Mitch Montelaro, Andrea Bergeron, and Corrine Montelaro.

At the request of the family, visitation will be held at Ardoin’s Funeral Home in Eunice on Thursday, September 18, 2025, from 8:00 am until time of services. A Rosary will be prayed at 12:00 pm by Father Hampton Davis.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation can be made to St. Anthony Catholic Church, 337.457.5285, or St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 337.457.8107.

EUNICE-It is with heavy hearts that the family of Maranda Brown Stroderd announces her passing on Thursday, September 11, 2025, at her home at the age of 45. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 19, 2025, at Ardoin’s Funeral Home Chapel in Eunice. Burial will follow in the St. Augustine Cemetery in Basile.

Maranda, born on January 23, 1980, in Austin, TX, was the beloved daughter of the late James and Patricia O’Banion Brown. As a Licensed Practical Nurse, she devoted herself to caring for others, while also pursuing her education in Medical Coding and Billing, demonstrating her tireless commitment to learning and growth. In her spare time, Maranda found joy in crocheting creations, immersing herself in gaming, and reading many books. However, the greatest joy in her life came from the precious moments spent with her beloved daughter, which were filled with laughter and love.

Maranda will be missed by all who knew and loved her, especially her husband of twenty-one years, Eric James Stroderd of Eunice; her daughter, Sheavon Olivia Stroderd of Eunice; her brother, Joshua Brown and wife, Valeria of Brownsville, TX; her sister, Tyiree Seaman and husband, Ronnie of Rosepine; her niece whom was also like a daughter, Phoebe Jewel Brown of Eunice; as well as extended family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents.

At the request of the family, visitation will take place at Ardoin’s Funeral Home in Eunice on Thursday, September 18, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM, and again on Friday, September 19, 2025, from 8:00 AM until time of services.
