Ancestor Spotlight ❤️ Let me introduce you to who is buried at Dunn Cemetery.

This is my Great Great Grandmother Georgetta Marlow McCarter Greenup

She was born the 21 of April in 1868 in the state of Illinois. Her parents were William Marlow and Amelia Jane Summers of Jefferson County Illinois and later Navarro County Texas where they bought a local grinding mill.

She married James Robert Alexander Bates McCarter in Corsicana Texas. She was his third wife. All three of his wives and himself are buried in Dunn Cemetery.

His first wife was Josephine MacDonald

2nd wife Emily Thompson

Her and James had 5 children: Ira Aubrey McCarter, George Dewey McCarter, Louella McCarter Byrd, Rhoda Belle McCarter Byrd and George McCarter.

The two George’s one who is in this photo on the back right of his mother did not survive childhood. At the age of 12 George Dewey McCarter was found deceased about 200 feet in the woods near by. He and his younger brother george who also died young are buried in Dunn Cemetery with no stones.

Georgetta was the last person to be buried in Dunn Cemetery in Sept 1926. She died 6 of Sept 1926 5 years to the day after her son Ira James McCarter who died at the age of 29.

Old Scottish Lore is that the last one buried in a graveyard is the keeper of the graveyard. The one that watches over everyone and keeps them safe.

I find it it only fitting if her descendants help save Dunn Cemetery and save it for future generations to visit their ancestors.

Stay tuned for more spotlights of Dunn Cemetary residents.
