Edwin Ralph Engle, Jr

Edwin Ralph Engle, Jr., who lived and worked the land he loved in Reece, went home to rest on Saturday, June 28, 2025, right there on his beloved farm near Reece, at the age of 64.

Born on July 23, 1960, in Wichita, to Edwin Ralph, Sr., and Barbara Ann (Miller) Engle, Eddie's path in life was also shaped by being lovingly raised by his dad, Floyd Austin Hagins, Jr. His early years were spent growing up in Olpe, attending local schools before the family moved on to western Kansas. He proudly graduated from Jetmore High School with the Class of 1978. His working life began at the Dieker’s in Strong City, eventually leading him to a position at the refinery in El Dorado. Through those years, Matfield Green was where he mostly called home. In 2008, he found his permanent home in Reece. It was here that he met his future partner, Chris. He retired in September 2017. Retirement didn't slow him down; he turned his hand to growing and selling produce, and it wasn't long before everyone knew "Engle Farms" was the place to go for fresh goods.

On August 28, 2010, Eddie was united in marriage to Christina Marie (McCullough) Gulick in Las Vegas, Nevada. They made their home on the farm.

He was every inch a farm boy, his hands familiar with the honest work of the land – hauling hay in the heat of summer and splitting wood against the winter's bite. Beyond the chores, Eddie was a master of good company, a renowned storyteller and joke teller. When he entered a room, the air seemed to lighten; he simply didn't allow for dull moments. His heart held a special place for the quiet joy of fishing the local creeks, the thrill of a good hunt, the satisfaction of tending his bountiful garden, and the sweet reward of his beekeeping. But above all, he cherished the deep bonds he shared with his community and friends, always ready to lend a hand or share a laugh.

He is survived by his wife, Chris, at their home; four children: Bryan and wife, Drew Engle of Emporia; Justin and wife, Mindy Engle of Emporia; Heather and husband, Thomas Staples of Emporia; and Courtney and husband, Dean Barksdale of Eureka; thirteen grandchildren; one sister, Terry Miller of Emporia; three nephews; and two nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Sheila Swartz and Cheryl Stegman.

A private family celebration of life will be held at a later date. Cremation has taken place. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Reece Cemetery, Reece. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Chris Engle to assist with expenses. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home, P.O. Box 595, Eureka KS 67045, which is overseeing arrangements. Condolences may be left for the family online at koupfunerals.com.

Danny C**n

Danny C**n, known by his friends as “C**ndog”, died peacefully at his home in Eureka surrounded by his family, on Thursday, June 26, 2025, at the age of 66.

Danny, a lifelong resident of Eureka, was born in Eureka, KS, on October 3, 1958, the son of Gilbert and Helen Weldene (Lozier) C**n. Raised amidst the familiar landscapes of Eureka, he attended local schools, worked at Jim’s IGA, forged lifelong bonds and graduated with the Eureka High School Class of 1976. From the moment he received his diploma, Danny embodied diligence and commitment, immediately diving into the workforce with a steadfast spirit that would define his professional life. He worked in the oilfield most of his life except for the time he spent working as a pipefitter for Blackburn Construction. He traveled to various refineries and chemical plants around the United States during his employment with Blackburn. Danny later worked for Marshall Oil as a pumper until his health deteriorated.

On March 11, 2000, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Cathy Messick, in Raymond, Kansas. Together, they built a warm and loving home in Eureka, where they raised their beloved daughter, Calie.

Beyond his dedication to his work, Danny's true joy lay in the simple, profound moments spent with his family. He cherished every opportunity to be with them, and it was one of his greatest pleasures to teach Calie the art and patience of fishing and hunting, and the satisfaction of simple mechanics, creating cherished memories that will endure. Outside his unwavering devotion to his family, Danny's heart held a special place for his beloved pets, finding comfort and companionship in their presence. A good day was when he could take his dog to the lake. Danny also relished the simple pleasure of a good, cold beer, often shared with friends as they swapped stories and laughter, making every gathering a memorable occasion.

Danny is lovingly survived by his devoted wife, Cathy, of the home; his cherished daughter, Calie C**n, of El Dorado, KS; his beloved yellow lab, Kahlua; his two brothers: Gary and his wife, Trish C**n, of Eureka, KS; and Ron and his wife, Pat Trimble of Joplin, MO. Clark Bogle

David “Clark” Bogle, a true cowboy from Eureka, Kansas, rode into the sunset at his home on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at the age of 73.

Born under the open skies of Eureka on May 23, 1952, Clark was the son of Billy Lee and Eunice Caroline (Mahar) Bogle. He spent his younger days between the green pastures of Eureka and the sprawling ranches of Texas, following his father's work, learning the value of hard work and the cowboy way. He attended Eureka High School. On June 28, 1972, he tied the knot with Erline Gayle Edwards in Eureka, building a home and welcoming four children. The call of the Texas ranches continued, drawing him back and forth, until that chapter closed.

On July 31, 1980, Clark's heart found its match with Marion “Kay” Hamilton. Their families became one, with Clark proudly welcoming Kay's two sons. The open road beckoned again, and they headed to Texas for five years of ranching, before the Kansas prairie called them home.

Back in Eureka, Clark built Bogle Fencing with Eric and Brian, a testament to his grit and determination. Though his health eventually forced him to hang up his hat in 2018, his spirit remained strong.

A skilled farrier, Clark had a way with horses, understanding their language and tending to them with care. He found solace in the pages of well-worn Western novels and the flickering images of classic cowboy heroes on TV. In his younger years, he chased the thrill of the rodeo, the dust and thunder of the arena forever etched in his soul. Even when he could no longer ride, he remained a devoted fan, rodeo being the only sport that could hold his attention.

Clark is survived by his beloved wife, Kay, his steady partner on this life's trail; his three children: Karen and her husband, Lee Lampson of Severy; Eric and his wife, Melissa Bogle of Eureka; and Brian Bogle of Reece. His legacy continues through his eight grandchildren: Katelyn, Ashley, Zoe, Elissa, Annabell, Reata, Maci, and Buster; and four great-grandchildren, with three more little ones on the way. He was preceded in death by his parents; three children, Shawna, Justin, and Tara; one grandchild, Lillian; and his siblings: Richard Lee Bogle and Mary “Kay” Soule.

A private family inurnment will take place at a later date. Cremation has effected. Koup Family Funeral Home is handling the final arrangements. The family invites you to leave your condolences and memories at koupfunerals.com.

Marcia Borst

Marcia Borst of Reece, a true cowgirl, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, June 13, 2025, at her home in Reece. She was 66 years old.

Born on May 1, 1959, in Wichita, Marcia was the daughter of Harold and Eleanor Marie “Ellie” (Hedges) Morton. She grew up with Kansas dirt under her boots in Eureka and Wichita, graduating from Valley Center High School. Her path led her first to a feed store in Wichita, then she moved on to the Sedgwick County Zoo, where she honed her skills in animal husbandry. This experience would serve her well back on the ranch.

On May 2, 1991, Marcia married Shawn Borst in Eureka. Together, they made their home there, and soon had one daughter, Sidnee. Their home was often filled with laughter, the sounds of cattle, and the happy barks of dogs.

Marcia loved her cows, her horses, and her dogs. She cherished being a rancher, finding deep satisfaction in the daily work of tending to the land and its creatures. She had a generous spirit, always ready to lend a hand to a neighbor or share a kind word. The most important thing to her were her grandchildren – Tad, Ellie, and Tobin – who brought her immense joy. She loved photographing deer and other wildlife, and she especially loved riding horses with Sidnee. Marcia always kept busy; her hands were never idle. Working the cattle alongside Shawn and Sidnee was her whole world.
