It started with a lump. At just 37, Renee was healthy and years away from her first routine mammogram. But she trusted her instincts and pushed for answers. That decision saved her life.

The lump was breast cancer. Thanks to early detection and the care of Susan Montgomery, M.D., at Providence Swedish Cancer Institute in Seattle, Wash., Renee’s journey toward healing and hope began. 🩷

Our hearts and prayers are with the family and loved ones of Suzan “Suzie” Smith, a flight nurse with our medivac partners, REACH Air Medical Services, who died as a result of her injuries sustained in a helicopter crash on Highway 50 in Sacramento.

At Providence St. Joseph Hospital Eureka and Redwood Memorial Hospital, we work closely with our medivac partners, and we know firsthand the courage, skill and compassion they bring to every mission.

We honor Suzie's sacrifice and all those who are inspired by her legacy of care. May her memory continue to inspire all of us who serve in health care to lead with bravery, purpose, and heart.

We are deeply saddened by the tragic REACH helicopter accident that occurred last night involving our medivac partners on Highway 50 in Sacramento, leaving three REACH crew members critically injured. Our hearts go out to the families, loved ones and colleagues affected by this accident. These brave individuals dedicate their lives to saving others. We stand in solidarity with our emergency response community during this difficult time and honor the courage and commitment of all who serve.

From all of us at Providence Humboldt, we send our heartfelt wishes for a full recovery.
