Owning my business is an immense privilege. This month marks 1 year of being full-time in my own practice, and 2 years of starting this business. I have observed the interconnectedness of the body: How pain in one area may be due to dysfunction in another. This pattern is mirrored in our society. In the same way that dysfunction of structures in the body can lead to immobility for an individual, so too does the implementation of legislation (that is the social sinew of our society) undermine the ability for upward progression. In both cases, this stasis can lead to [dis]ease in both a metaphorical and literal sense as well as intergenerational poverty and the associated challenges that come from living with insufficient means to thrive in survival. This is why we cannot speak of ecological issues without giving equal agency to issues of affordable healthcare and housing, a living wage, and equitable educational opportunities. Now is the time to acknowledge the socio-historical context from which these issues are born. Now is the time for the approach to be as multifaceted as the issues.

Saturdays are for charting. Although I’m not required to keep notes, it’s a helpful habit I formed from working in a medical clinic. It’s also a wonderful way to track improvement and movement of pain in the body.
