Our local CIT starts next week!

May is Mental Health Awareness Month 💚

Mental health impacts every community, every profession, and every family. At CIT International, we believe meaningful crisis response starts with understanding, compassion, and collaboration.

This month, we recognize the importance of reducing stigma, supporting access to care, and strengthening the partnerships between law enforcement, behavioral health professionals, and advocates with lived experience.

Awareness is important. Action changes lives.

Together, we can continue building safer, more compassionate responses for people experiencing crises.

What is CIT?

CIT stands for Crisis Intervention Team training — a specialized 40-hour program designed to help first responders better understand and respond to people experiencing mental health crises, substance use challenges, developmental disabilities, and trauma-related situations.

The training brings together law enforcement, behavioral health professionals, advocates, and community partners to improve communication, safety, and outcomes for everyone involved.

Next week, May 18–22, officers and community partners from across Humboldt County will participate in CIT training hosted by the Eureka Police Department with support from NAMI Humboldt.
