Let’s talk about grits for National Nutrition Month.

First of all… if you’re not from the South, you might be staring at a bowl of grits like “what exactly is this?”

Grits are made from ground corn. That’s it. Corn that’s been dried and ground into a coarse meal, then cooked with liquid until it turns into that creamy, comforting bowl of goodness we all know and love.

They’re naturally:
• Gluten-free
• A source of carbohydrates for energy
• Very low in fat

Now here’s where people get confused. Grits themselves are not the problem. The five pounds of butter, cheese, and bacon grease people dump into them? That’s usually where the calories start doing backflips.
Nutrition is rarely about eliminating foods. It’s about understanding what you’re eating and how portions work.

You can absolutely enjoy foods you love and still support your health goals. That’s exactly what I teach my clients.

One tablespoon = about 120 calories. Most people aren’t using one tablespoon. They’re pouring.

A “little drizzle” turns into 2–3 tablespoons real quick. That’s 240–360 calories before we even talk about the actual food on your plate.

No cute shortcuts today. Just slow reps, deep tension, and those hip thrusts moment where you question every life choice halfway through a set.

This is the work people skip when they want fast results. But this is also the work that builds the shape everyone swears is “genetic.”

February was intentional.

Less noise. More presence.
More time with God. More time sitting with myself instead of running from what I needed to feel.

I poured back into me.
I created a space that feels like rest… not recovery from survival. A home that feels like a cozy, modern luxury hotel suite… but built for my peace, not just aesthetics.
Comfort. Softness. Stillness.

As a Dietitian and trainer, I helped Soldiers meet the Army’s standards of physical fitness at numerous duty stations in the continental United States and abroad. In addition to countless military certifications, I studied Nutrition and Dietetics at Barton County Community College and later transferred to Kansas State University.
