MPA Founder Jennifer Panning PsyD is interviewed in this Q and A by Inae Oh about the new surgeon general’s recommendation for alcohol to have a warning label due to its correlation with certain types of cancer.

Short answer is no you don’t have to feel anxious or guilty about occasional alcohol use!

They also discuss when alcohol use can become problematic, the impact of chronic stress on the body, when guilt can serve as a helpful signal, how living in this uncertain sociopolitical climate contributes to needing outlets, and some coping strategies for all of us!

Adolescent mental health is an ongoing issue with mental health of our teens at very low levels--depression, anxiety, and eating disorder concerns being very common amongst teens.

MPA Founder Jennifer Panning PsyD discusses a recently published study which found that teen girls' brains were more negatively impacted than teen boys by the pandemic and her thoughts about why this may have happened.

As parents we have a responsibility to care for our children and that includes addressing any mental health concerns, especially if your child is requesting mental health support because of noticing their own symptoms.

In the aftermath of yet another school sho*ting, it has come out that this troubled teen requested mental health assistance and adults in his life did not address this.

It is heartbreaking to know this student was not given the help he requested.

As a mental health professional, I will not stay silent in discussing the importance of breaking through stigma and false beliefs about mental health…and as a parent you may not know what to do if your child is struggling but there are many resources available for assistance.

Like any complex situation there is not one problem nor one solution, but listening to our kids and providing resources is crucial.

The ongoing ripple effect of trauma to our kids, ourselves, and our communities is real…please take care of yourself and your kids when faced with awful tragedies like this one
