It’s Evanston Counseling show and tell time! Our staff recently got together and shared some of our favorite reads. Catherine’s pick is Tiny Beautiful Things by Cheryl Strayed. Have you read it? Take it from Catherine, it’s a great read to have on hand. 📚☕️

What are the books you return to again and again? Please drop some titles in the comments! Time with a good book is an A+ winter pick-me-up. ❄️

Catherine spoke with The Daily Northwestern recently about SAD (season affective disorder), and some ways to alleviate symptoms. Getting outside, socializing and seeking out professional support are all great options.

Do you experience SAD? If so, what coping strategies have helped?

Northwestern and Evanston medical providers offer many resources for community members who may be experiencing symptoms of seasonal affective disorder this winter.  SAD is induced by the change in seasons, most commonly occurring in the winter. Symptoms include heaviness, brain fog, an increased de...

Finding mental health support from an LGBTQ-Affirming therapist could seem like a hefty task in our often binary-thinking world.

Even in the field of mental health, you could be confronted with casual homophobia or transphobia.

When you’re dealing with profound questions about your gender identity or sexual orientation, you need someone who understands what you are going through. You want to be able to connect with and trust your therapist.

Our Evanston Counseling therapists provide a welcoming space for people who identify as le***an, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer/questioning (LGBTQ+) to not only explore but to heal and live authentically.

Reach out to us. We are here for you. Link in bio.

Which one would you rather
receive from your partner? A beautiful bouquet of flowers, a free morning because your partner took your kids to the park or the words “You’re an amazing mom!” whispered in your ear?

Understanding how you most like to receive love (what you might call your “love language”) can help you better communicate your needs to your partner.

Once you begin to love yourself and clearly express how you want to receive love, you will begin to feel filled up. Then you can let that full cup spill over onto your partner!

Check out our blog, “Rekindle the Spark: Learn to Speak Your Partner’s Love Language,” to discover more about the benefits of loving yourself. Link in bio.

When we start to feel overwhelmed our breath gets shorter and our heart rate goes up. Grounding techniques like paced breathing can help our bodies relax and reduce our anxiety. This form of paced breathing focuses on breathing in and out through the nose, but you can also breath in through your nose and out through the mouth if you're more comfortable with that. If you're interested in learning more about grounding techniques like paced breathing, give us a call at 773-983-8444 or go to our website (link in bio) to schedule your free, 15 minute consultation.
