🎉 Registration is NOW OPEN for CFC's 2025 Summer Conference! 🎉

Center for Family Consultation's 2025 Summer Conference, "Getting Beyond Cutoff in the Family," is scheduled for Friday, July 26, 2025, from 9:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. CST (registration begins at 8:30 A.M.). This in-person event will be held at the Carleton Hotel in Oak Park, Illinois.

Emotional Cutoff in Bowen Theory
The conference will delve into emotional cutoff, a concept introduced by Murray Bowen, defined as “the process of separation, isolation, withdrawal, running away, or denying the importance of the parental family.” This phenomenon often arises when individuals distance themselves from family members to manage unresolved tensions, leading to patterns that can persist across generations.

Program Highlights
Morning Session: An overview of family emotional processes presented by Stephanie Ferrera, followed by case studies from family therapists showcasing strategies to reverse family cutoffs.

Afternoon Session: Screening of the documentary Everything’s Kosher, a thought provoking documentary that explores themes of cut off, identity, intergenerational trauma, and cultural belonging. Post-screening, Lisa Moss, MSW, will interview the film’s director and main character, Adam Fried, discussing the ongoing efforts in his family.

Attendees can earn 6 CEUs, approved for professionals including social workers, psychologists, marriage and family therapists, professional counselors, clergy, and healthcare providers.
