I am happy to announce that beginning Tuesday, September 1, I will be adding Tuesdays to the existing Friday, Saturday, and Monday schedule. The self-scheduling tool on my website, frankscottacupuncture.com, is fast and easy, but if you prefer don’t hesitate to call and schedule with me directly at 847-791-9214.

We have added HEPA filters in the treatment rooms to further enhance our safety profile. You can see our full safety protocol on my website, which includes frequent cleaning with CDC approved disinfectants and UV light. I am confident that you will find our procedures among the best you will encounter.

Pain and Acupuncture

Frequently, patients come to see me with chronic or recurrent pain that may be only partially addressed by the self care measures they have in place.

Acupuncture and adjunctive treatment techniques can be effective for breaking through the mechanisms that renew pain or hold it in place. These can be things like maladaptive postural patterns, imbalanced relationships between muscle groups, overly tense or poorly developed muscle tone or overuse injuries with tendon and joint involvement.

Acupuncture, along with other techniques like tui na massage, guasha scraping, pneumatic cupping and electrical stimulation; can reset those pain patterns so that self care techniques become more effective and enduring in providing relief. We can also review, clarify and prioritize self care strategies to optimize building strength, balancing muscle relationships and preventing further injury.

Office Hours and Herbal Refills

The office is open for treatments Monday, Friday and Saturday, with comprehensive protocols for managing patient safety. These protocols are listed on my website at frankscottacupuncture.com. You can make an appointment online or call me at 847-791-9214.

For those patients continuing to receive herbal refills, I will maintain the Thursday, 9:00 am to 3:00 pm phone request window for herbal pick up availability on Saturdays between 11:00 am - 1:00 pm.

Payment information will be stapled to the bag, which will be available for convenient pick up just inside the street door.

I look forward to seeing or talking with you soon.

Treating Allergies with Acupuncture and Custom Herbal Formulas = Energy and Mental Clarity

The strategies we employ, for all types of disorders, improve resilience and adaptability and the capacity to meet the world with your best resources at the fore. The treatment of allergies is one example.

We are all likely outdoors more frequently now and have perhaps encountered a robust allergy season. Acupuncture and herbs to treat allergies rely on a different strategy than the symptom suppression characteristic of Western treatments like antihistamines. Our approach is focused on improving the body’s adaptive defense mechanisms (which we call wei qi) and on effective circulation of fluids and management of phlegm. This approach improves energy and mental clarity, contrasted with the side effects of fatigue and brain fog associated with the antihistamine approach. If you are experiencing allergies and would like to discuss it with me please call 847-791-9214.

I look forward to seeing or talking with you soon,
Frank

I am adding Friday availability for in-person treatments, in addition to Mondays and Saturdays. Appointments can be made through my website at frankscottacupuncture.com (the self scheduling tool is easy and quick!). You can also continue to make appointments by phone at 847-791-9214.

Change in herbal refill order day: I am now taking herbal refill requests on Thursdays from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm, instead of Fridays. Pick up is still Saturdays 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. I am continuing to mix herbs for patients who are not able to return for in-person treatments at this time and will consult with you at no cost.

Please call 847-791-9214 this Thursday, June 6 from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm to ensure Saturday, June 13, pick up 11:00 am to 1:00 pm.

You have no doubt heard of “quarantine fatigue”, an impatience with all the safety provisions and constraints during this time. You may be feeling it yourself. I strongly believe that those efforts have led to Illinois’ success in meeting all five CDC criteria for safe re-opening. We are the only state to do so. I trust that you will feel safe at Wellspring with our considerable safety measures.

I have been practicing Chinese medicine for over thirty years. In this time I have seen the significant improvements to health and well-being that acupuncture, bodywork, and custom herbal formulas make for my patients. I have missed being able to provide the health advantages Chinese medicine can offer and I am happy to be back where I belong, helping patients.

I look forward to reconnecting with you soon!

Frank

06/05/2020

I am excited to be reopening to in-person patient treatments on Monday, June 8. I will be in the office on Mondays and Saturdays initially.

We will not have checkout at the front desk at this time. You will find a self scheduling feature on my website, frankscottacupuncture.com. You may also call to schedule at 847.791.9214.

Thank you in advance for your compliance and patience with additional safety measures as we transition back to providing in-person treatments. When we all do our part to reduce risk for each other, we move ourselves ever more steadily to a time beyond this pandemic when being with each other can begin to resemble what we have known before. Please call 847.791.9214 if you have any questions or concerns I can address before or after treatment.

I am maintaining herbal refills and consultation at no charge for existing patients, recognizing that not everyone will be able to return to in-person treatments at this time.

Your reviews on this page are tremendously helpful to me to help others find my practice. Thank you

As I move towards this return to direct contact with folks, I am reminded how grateful I am for what I get to do and the joy that it brings me to help others. I so much look forward to seeing or talking with you soon. Best Regards, Frank

I will be reopening to in-person treatments on Monday, June 8 with a comprehensive plan to optimize safety. I look forward very much to seeing you all soon. My fellow practitioners and I are following the guidance for safety of our state and national organizations. In addition, we have added other safeguards from the CDC to optimize your safety and confidence while being treated at Wellspring.
My schedule will be on Saturdays and Mondays initially, as we try to limit overlap of patients and practitioners in the space. I expect to expand the schedule soon. Please call 847-791-9214 to schedule a treatment.
I will maintain Saturday herbal pick up, 11am - 1pm, for those patients not ready to return to in-person treatments. The next pick up date is this Saturday, May 30.
Please call on Friday, May 29, from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm at 847-791-9214 to be assured of getting your herbs Saturday.
I will continue to consult at no charge with patients by phone who are not yet ready to return to the office. Please call me directly for any questions about the best plan for your individual circumstances.

Now that the stay-at-home orders are being loosened I am carefully considering a date for my return to practice. I believe that sometime in June will be appropriate. I am watching developments closely and will make a decision soon. Thank you so much for your patience.

In this time you may have been away from work and a regular schedule and routine, as I have been. Maybe you have continued to work, perhaps in a modified situation from home, with all the complexities and stresses deriving from that. Like me, you have probably also had insights into successful and failed experiments in supporting your physical and mental health.
At this point perhaps you have begun to recognize those attitudes and behaviors that are “keepers”.

My keepers are: the necessity of more standing and movement than sitting, finishing news early in the day then taking a news break until tomorrow, and getting outside at least a little most days. I find myself using a planner more actively than I did before since my days are not as structured by work as they were, but I still have a surprising amount of things to do, especially projects I have been putting off, sometimes for years! A silver lining of this stay at home time has been having the space to get those things done. Finding a simple to-do list planner app (Todoist) has underscored for me how much I appreciate having a place to set things down so I am not carrying so many things in my head. That relief is much more impressive than I would have anticipated.

Have you had new (or old) insights that are keepers? How will you hold onto them as we emerge from our shelter-in-place lifestyle? I delight in hearing from you. I encourage you to contact me with any ongoing or new issues for which I can be a support. I continue to mix custom herbal formulas for Saturday pick up as detailed below.

Call or text me at 847-791-9214. Email me at fscott@pacificcollege.edu.

All my best to you and looking forward to seeing you in person soon,

Frank

Herbs for Anxiety - Chinese herbal formulas can be very helpful in easing anxiety. This is an anxious moment we are living in, fraught with apprehension and uncertainty. Anxiety is a natural reaction to a feeling of being in danger. While it is natural, it can become overwhelming. Chinese herbal formulas can be very helpful in easing both new anxiety and long-standing patterns. Herbal formulas are not associated with the dependency characteristics of pharmacological treatments.

As part of my experience working in mental health programs, we examined the role anxiety occupies in people’s lives - not merely as a symptom of distress, but as a representation of a philosophy towards life and a coping strategy.

On some levels, anxiety demonstrates to ourselves that we are paying sufficient attention, that we will not miss essential information and clues and that we will use this data to prepare ourselves successfully. It has been said that anxiety is a rehearsal for disaster.

Some of us feel more secure being well-rehearsed, while others feel that they can respond more spontaneously. It is not hard to imagine how mentally rehearsing for the worst can gain momentum and overwhelm our coping resources. When we repeatedly mentally rehearse for danger over longer periods of time this may become encoded in our brains and be entrenched in more enduring patterns

Herbal formulas can improve our profile for tolerating stress and prevent the entrenched encoding altogether. I would be happy to discuss with you how an herbal formula custom designed for you can help ease anxiety.

Our Wellspring practitioner group met online recently to discuss a phased reopening of our practice. We have evaluated and incorporated the recommendations of our national and state professional organizations in developing a plan for the safest procedures for the space, staff and patient flow, cleaning and disinfectant procedures, protective equipment and treatment room protocols. I will share the details of the plan as soon as it is finalized in the near future.
We anticipate that these adaptations and procedures will be manageable for both practitioners and patients and will optimize the health and safety of everyone. While there are always degrees of uncertainty, be assured that I and all practitioners at Wellspring will adhere to the highest standards for safety in our profession.
I have decided to reopen my own practice as part of the later phase, in a couple of weeks. I will let you know a firmer date as soon as possible. I regret that this will create difficulty for some patients. I remain available to you for consultation by phone at no charge and encourage you make use of this resource as much as you need. I will continue to mix herbal formulas for existing patients as outlined each week in this email newsletter.
I love hearing from you as to how you are managing the challenges of maintaining your health during the shelter in place. Your own innovations can be a catalyst for tactics I will use myself or pass on to others as part of our collective, responsive self-care.
Call or text me at 847-791-9214. Email me at fscott@pacificcollege.edu.

All my best to you and looking forward to seeing you in person when we can,

I do so appreciate the connection with you that we are able to maintain through email and phone. It’s great to be hearing from so many folks about what they are doing to stay positive during this shelter at home time. You are taking online classes, doing meditation, yoga, music, exercise and taking photos. Protecting your mental health as well as your physical health.

I am at my best with a more structured schedule than is easy to find right now. I try to finish my home projects by 6 pm. Then I play guitar or watch online concerts in the evening to relax. I am pretty sure I am not stretching enough to maintain my elasticity. I am still keeping up with a regular bedtime and getting up by 6:30 am because it just makes me feel more normal. Has your routine been working for you?

As you can see in the lower right corner of the photo (those bags with white name tags ready for pick up), lots of folks are still getting their Chinese herbs for their ongoing health concerns. If you have any questions about our no contact method for pick up, give me a call and I will be glad to describe it.

If you have new health issues, I am happy to discuss them with you. Of course, at this time there is no charge. Feel free to contact me at any time. I will get back to you usually the same day.

Call or text me at 847-791-9214. Email me at fscott@pacificcollege.edu.

This is my new walking-the-neighborhood mask, beautifully made and embroidered with the word Together by my friend Denise. I have confidence that physical distancing and masks will make a big difference in slowing the spread of Covid-19.

I wanted the Together message, because I sense the apprehension and confusion of folks I encounter as we make our way through this challenge. A lot is being asked of us and I profoundly believe we are capable of meeting the demands of this moment together.

I hope you will let me know if I can be helpful to you. I am happy to hear from you at any time. I have heard from folks who have reached out feeling isolated or discouraged. I am grateful for this knowledge and for their invitation to respond to them.

Hoping you are finding productive ways to take care of your physical and mental health while in quarantine. By having my routines disrupted, I am increasing my awareness of what is essential for my own well-being.

For instance, I need to find ways to sit less and to walk more, which are normally built into my time at the practice. I need to maintain my normal wake schedule at 6:20 am, even without my usual workday expectations.

Each day gives me more clarity about what is foundational to my best attitude and energy. What insights have you had about what keeps you going?
