Reminder for winter ❄️👇
✨ Your kidneys don’t respond to motivational quotes.
😴 They respond to naps.

In Chinese medicine, the Kidneys are linked to fear, fatigue, and deep burnout. When they’re depleted, anxiety gets louder — especially in winter.

Acupuncture helps calm the nervous system, support sleep, and rebuild those deep reserves 💧🌀

Because sometimes self-care isn’t a bubble bath.
It’s a nap… and an acupuncture session 😉

If you feel more anxious or tired in winter, you’re not broken.
You’re seasonal. ❄️🌙

Chinese medicine teaches that winter asks us to slow down, protect our energy, and restore. When we don’t (hello modern life), anxiety and fatigue show up as signals — not failures.

Acupuncture supports:
🌿 Better sleep
🌿 Calmer nervous system
🌿 Emotional resilience
🌿 Deeper energy reserves

Your body isn’t asking you to push harder.
It’s asking for care.

Winter anxiety isn’t a personal failing — it’s physiology.
❄️🧠💧

In Chinese medicine, winter is the season of the Kidneys, which govern deep energy reserves, sleep, and the stress response. Chronic fear, stress, and overwork can deplete this system, leaving you feeling anxious, exhausted, or burnt out.

✨ This is why rest, warmth, and support matter more in winter.

Acupuncture helps calm the nervous system, rebuild reserves, and support deeper sleep — so you don’t have to white-knuckle your way through the season.

Hydration tip for winter 💧 A tip I learned from my friend and colleague Dawn Graziano L.Ac. at

Cold weather and indoor heat can quietly dry us out—even if we don’t feel thirsty.

A simple winter practice:
Add a small pinch of mineral or sea salt to warm or room-temperature water. This can help support proper hydration and energy during the colder months. And can help dissolve excess phlegm.

(If you need to limit sodium, skip this or check with your provider.)

Happy New Year! 💚

Instead of rushing into resolutions, Chinese medicine invites us to begin the year gently. January lives deep in winter—a season of rest, reflection, and restoring energy.

If you’re feeling slower, more tired, or less motivated than usual, you’re not behind. Your body may simply be responding wisely to the season.

Here’s to a year of listening more closely, moving more slowly when needed, and choosing care over pressure. ✨

Your winter herbal support kit doesn’t need to be complicated. A few gentle allies can make a big difference in immunity and stress resilience. 🌿❄️

Right now I’m recommending:
✨ Astragalus + Elderberry for immune strength
✨ Reishi + Cordyceps for stress + adrenal balance
✨ Ashwagandha or Holy Basil for nervous system support
✨ Vitamin D + K2 (a Midwest essential!)

If you’d like a customized winter protocol, I’m happy to help.

A small moment at the bus stop became the reminder I needed this winter. ❄️

A woman asked if I could help her over a snow hump. That tiny moment opened into conversation. Then my downstairs neighbor walked up and joined us and suddenly we were all chatting like old friends. Later, two of us reached out to help someone else across another snowy spot.

It struck me how naturally we step in for one another — especially in winter.
Community is Water element medicine.
Resilience isn’t only something we cultivate inside; it’s something we carry together.

Acupuncture helps strengthen the body’s reserves, but moments like these strengthen the heart.

💚 Stay warm. Stay connected.

Winter is the season of the Water element in East Asian medicine — the time when our foundations, adrenals, and resilience need the most care. ❄️💧

This is when we nourish deeply:
• Immune support (Wei Qi)
• Nervous system regulation
• Kidney + adrenal strengthening
• Warm, grounding foods
• Rest + quiet

If you’ve been feeling run down, stressed, or depleted, winter acupuncture can help restore your reserves and support your body’s natural defenses.

Appointments available this week in Evanston.

I just returned from a beautiful trip to Mexico City, where I spent time with my friend’s family — soaking in warmth, connection, history, and incredible food. 🇲🇽✨

Travel has a way of resetting the nervous system. Being welcomed into someone’s home, sharing meals, walking through vibrant neighborhoods — it all reminded me how joy and connection are medicine too, especially during the Water-element season of deep restoration.

I came home feeling replenished and inspired, ready to support patients through winter with acupuncture, herbs, and a renewed sense of possibility.

If your system needs the same kind of reset, I’d love to support you.

Energy Conservation in Winter (Water Season) 🌙

Winter is the season of rest, reflection, and renewal.
Just like nature slows down, we are meant to soften our pace, conserve energy, and let our nervous systems recalibrate.

In East Asian medicine, December is the time to nourish Kidney energy—the foundation of:
• Fertility & reproductive health
• Hormones & adrenals
• Stress resilience
• Lower back health
• Courage + inner willpower

A few ways to support yourself this month:
🌙 Choose quiet over stimulation
🌙 Keep your low back and feet warm
🌙 Nourish with black beans, mushrooms, miso, seaweed
🌙 Take 5 minutes of slow breathing
🌙 Schedule restorative acupuncture

If you’re feeling run down—or want to start the new year with more clarity and groundedness—I’d love to see you in clinic.

✨ Winter invites us to slow down. ✨
As we move into the deepest Yin time of year, our bodies ask for rest, warmth, and gentleness. In Chinese medicine, Winter = Water element, the season of the Kidneys, our deepest reserves of energy, fertility, willpower, and resilience.

If you’ve been feeling:
• Low energy
• Sleep disruptions
• Stress or anxiety
• Hormonal shifts
• Tight low back

—your Kidney Qi may be asking for nourishment.

This season, try:
💙 Warm, slow-cooked foods
💙 Early bedtimes
💙 Protecting your low back from cold
💙 Deep breathing + stillness
💙 Acupuncture to restore Kidney Yin/Yang

I have openings this week and would love to support you in entering December grounded and replenished.
