New Student Alert! 🚨
Meet Lobsang, our newest scholar with Himalaya Project! Lobsang is a second-year student at Mentseekhang, Bangalore, and we are so excited to welcome her to the program.

Here’s a little about her, in her own words:

“My name is Lobsang Dolma Yonjan, and I was born and raised in Kathmandu, Nepal. My parents run a shop, and I have a younger sister. I want to pursue Tibetan medicine because I firmly believe in the value of alternative medicine alongside mainstream medical treatment. Before stepping into the world of traditional Tibetan medicine, I wish to ground myself in the guiding principles of Buddhist philosophy, which emphasize compassion and service to others. These values are at the heart of Sowa Rigpa, and I feel deeply that this profession is the right path for me.”

An Update on Princess Shah✨
After completing her course in April last year, Princess Shah began her journey as a practitioner at the Sowa Rigpa Wellness Centre. On November 29th, she proudly celebrated her convocation — a moment that marked the culmination of years of dedication and hard work.

Princess has been part of the Himalaya Project for five years and is one of our original scholarship recipients. We are incredibly proud to witness her growth and unwavering commitment to the path of Sowa Rigpa.

As she continues her journey of serving others through traditional medicine, Princess remains deeply grateful for the support she received:

“Some feelings go beyond words — but please know, my heart is full of gratitude.”

We celebrate Princess and all that lies ahead in her bright future!

🎓 Congratulations to Kungyal Lama !
We’d like to take a moment to recognize Kungyal Lama, who has been part of our scholarship cohort since 2021. In February 2024, he completed his studies in Sowa Rigpa and graduated from the Sorig Bumshi School (གསོ་རིག་འབུམ་བཞིཡི་སློབ་གྲྭ།).
Kungyal has been a valued member of our community and has now returned to his home village in Dolpo, Nepal. We appreciate his dedication and wish him the best in his next chapter.

Happy Thanksgiving to all who celebrate! Our board member, Tenzing, recently traveled to Kathmandu, Nepal for her research in Tibetan Studies where she had the opportunity to meet with one of our students, Kunchok Wangmo. Kunchok has just completed her final exams at the Shree Mangal Dvip Boarding School and is eagerly awaiting her results. She is set to begin a two-year residency for acupuncture and medicine in her village near the Tsum Valley of the Gurkha District of Nepal. It was so nice to meet you Kunchok, and best of luck at your residency!

🏔️ We are quickly approaching winter, but some of our Board Members embarked on incredible journeys along the Himalayan range this summer! 🌟 As the first installment of our Travel Series, we are thrilled to highlight Tenzin Karma’s visit to Sowa Rigpa International College in Kathmandu, where some of our amazing students are actively engaged. We currently have three sponsored students - Jigtok, Princess Shah, and Pema Yeshe Gurgung - studying at Sowa Rigpa International college. The last few images are from Mentseekhang Bangalore, where Karma Phuntsok attends. The team was excited to connect to the centers where our students thrive! Our mission to bridge the gap between Sowa Rigpa practice and our students is showcased through these moments, and we couldn’t be more excited to share this fantastic experience with you. More travel photos to come!
