It’s called trigger point therapy. AKA “Good pain”. Some say it ”hurts so good”.
🟢 We treat trigger points by maintaining firm pressure on a muscle knot for a certain amount of time.
🟢 That pressure produces a temporary sometimes painful sensation that when treated properly, fades away, leaving you feeling better than ever, and most often pain free.
🟢 You are always in control of the pressure and the pain level is usually a 4-6 on a 10 pt scale.
🟢 Your only job is to breathe deep which makes our job easier by bringing oxygen to your muscles to help them relax, communicate if the pressure is too much, and experience the pain melting away.
🤓 Trigger points can have referral PATTERNS, which means there is an expected and repeated path where the pain travels, and any great therapist knows where that path leads 🛣️. The path to Misery for their clients.
🤓 Trigger points in the shoulders (upper traps) can cause tension headaches around the ears 👂 in a question mark ❓ pattern, trigger points in the neck (SCM or sternocleidomastoid) can cause eye twitching, trigger points in the back of your shoulder, underneath the shoulder blade (infraspinatus) can cause pain all the way down to your arm and tingling in the hand and can be mistaken often for tennis elbow 🎾 or carpal tunnel.
