Let’s Talk About Joint Pain—and What We Can Do About It by Gordon S. Olsen, DO
If there’s one thing I’ve learned over the years, it’s that pain and limited mobility can quietly take away the activities that make life meaningful. Whether it’s working, staying active, or simply keeping up with family, joint pain has a way of slowing people down—and that’s where my passion for orthopedics comes in.
As an orthopedic surgeon at Uinta Medical Group, my goal is simple: help patients regain more function, reduce pain, and get back to doing the things they enjoy most.
Every day, I work with patients of all ages facing a wide range of orthopedic concerns—from sports injuries and fractures to arthritis and chronic joint pain. I treat conditions affecting the shoulder, hip, knee, hand, foot, ankle, and more. No two patients are alike, which is why I take the time to really listen and understand a patient's goals before recommending a treatment plan.
Whenever possible, I believe in starting with the least invasive options—this might include physical therapy, targeted exercises, or medication to help manage symptoms and slow disease progression. In many cases, these approaches can make a meaningful difference.
That said, there are times when joint replacement becomes the most reliable way to restore mobility and relieve pain. When surgery is the right path, our team offers advanced options, including MAKO robotic‑assisted joint replacement surgery here in Evanston.* This technology allows for greater precision and personalization—though it’s not right for everyone, and that’s a conversation we carefully have together.
One of the most rewarding parts of my work is watching patients regain confidence in their movement—whether that’s returning to sports, getting back to work, or simply walking without pain again. Clear communication and shared decision‑making are always at the center of my approach. I want patients to feel informed, empowered, and comfortable with every step of their care.
If joint pain or reduced mobility is affecting your quality of life, I encourage you to schedule a consultation. Through evaluation and diagnostics, we can identify the source of the problem and talk through the full range of treatment options available to you.
