Get to know our dietitians! Today's spotlight is Ruth, a rockstar RD who has been with our practice since 2023! She loves helping her clients improve their wellbeing and develop positive relationships with food, eating and their bodies. Ruth is 100% virtual/telehealth and has availability for afternoon/evening appointments. Like all dietitians at our practice, Ruth's clients can use their insurance benefits, as we accept most major local commercial insurances, including Aetna, BCBS, Cigna, United Healthcare/UMR, Deaconess OneCare, and Alliance Coal.

54% of LGBTQ+ youth report being diagnosed with an eating disorder.
21% suspected they had one but were never formally diagnosed.

If you work in a school or other setting where youth are present, please educate yourself on the signs and symptoms of eating disorders. Our most vulnerable populations, including already marginalized youth, are hurting and need help and support. Thank you National Alliance for Eating Disorders for all the work that you do and for bringing this to the table....again and again and again and forever... as long as we need to do so.

Every 52 minutes...

Every 52 minutes, someone will die was a direct result of an eating disorder. And these aren't JUST medical complications of malnutrition.

Eating disorder sufferers with the highest symptom severity are 11 times more likely to attempt su***de than their peers without eating disorder symptoms, and even those with sub-threshold symptoms are twice as likely. Patients with anorexia have a risk of su***de 18 times higher than those without an eating disorder.

Today kicks off Eating Disorders Awareness Week 2025. We will be sharing information and resources each day. Why? Because it matters.

Whether you realize it or not, you know someone (likely a few) who are experiencing an eating disorder. Prior to 2020 (likely higher now) research showed us that 9% of US population (~30 million) would experience an eating disorder in their lifetime. Of those, only about 6% will be medically diagnosed as "underweight". Eating disorders are non-discriminate. They affect every age, gender, ethnicity, and socioeconomic status; and they have the 2nd highest mortality rate of all mental health conditions.
