🍪 Macronutrients: A Quick Run Down 🍪
The term “macros” has become a pretty popular buzzword in the health and wellness industry over the last several years. But what the heck even is a macro?!
Macros is short for macronutrients which are the big building blocks that make up our food. The three macronutrients are:
🍞 Carbohydrates: starchy foods that are our primary source of energy; breads, grains, rice, etc.
🥩 Protein: typically meat (but can come from a variety of other sources) that provide the building blocks to build muscle; steak, chicken, eggs, etc.
🥜 Fats: a concentrated source of energy that keeps us satiated and assists in other vital bodily functions; cooking oils, nut butters, nuts, etc.
