The Mummies of Guanajuato, Mexico are a number of naturally mummified bodies interred during a cholera outbreak in 1833. The human bodies appear to have been disinterred between 1870 and 1958. During that time, a local tax was in place requiring a fee to be paid for "perpetual" burial. Some bodies for which the tax was not paid were disinterred and found in a perfectly and naturally mummified state.

Native American Day is not a federal holiday, so it is celebrated on different days in different states. It is celebrated on the fourth Friday of September in California and the second Monday in October in South Dakota. Native Americans have played a huge role in the history of the United States. It is only fair to set aside a date to honor them. So until the federal government recognizes that, we will set aside the fourth Tuesday in September as our day to celebrate in Indiana!

Let this be our day dedicated to honoring and celebrating the Native American culture and the contributions they have made and continue to make to our country as a whole.
