Ascension St. Vincent Evansville has been named the only hospital in southwestern Indiana with a MRSA infection rate of zero, according to Becker’s Hospital Review.

This distinction reflects the daily commitment of our teams to deliver safe, high-quality care for every patient who walks through our doors. Dr. Tony Schapker’s commitment to caring for others is truly a lifelong vocation. After an incredible career as a pediatrician, spending 35 years at St. Vincent, Dr. Schapker transitioned his passion into spiritual care. His duties as a Deacon at St. John The Baptist Catholic Church often led him back to the hospital as a eucharistic minister, inspiring him to officially join our Pastoral Care team after retirement.

Now, following expanded education, Dr. Schapker continues to provide vital faith-based services to our physicians, associates, and patients at Ascension St. Vincent Evansville. Thank you, Dr. Schapker, for serving the whole person! 💙

In 1957, Ascension St. Vincent Evansville made history by becoming the first hospital in the country to take a family-centered approach to maternity care.

That year, fathers were welcomed to join their partners during the delivery of their babies for the first time. Today, this practice continues as we make advancements in the care of women and children, including the recent renovations of our Hospital for Women and Children.

Our recent Mission Retreat was a meaningful time of renewal. With the inspiring presence of the Daughters of Charity, we deepened our understanding of holistic care, attending to the whole person in mind, body, and spirit.

Together, we explored topics such as emotional intelligence, nutrition, and stress management, reminding us that caring for ourselves and others begins with balance and compassion. We learned, laughed and lived our Mission more fully.
