This Veterans Day, we were privileged to welcome Sgt. Nick West, E-5, U.S. Army — Afghanistan Combat Veteran to our community. Sgt. West spent time with our residents, shared meaningful conversation, and honored each of them with a Certificate and a Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1114 Challenge Coin as a symbol of gratitude, respect, and recognition.

The coin, representing all branches of the United States Armed Forces, served as a powerful reminder of courage, sacrifice, and the bond shared by those who serve.

At River Bend, we are deeply grateful for every Veteran who calls our community home, as well as our very own MDS coordinator-Mary Boyd-who served 6years in the Navy! Their bravery, resilience, and service continue to inspire us every day.

Thank you to Sgt. West, and to all of our Veterans at River Bend. We honor you — today and always.

Today our residents proudly joined our Annual Walk for the Cure — showing that strength, courage, and hope have no age limit. Each pink ribbon and smiling face represents a story of survival, remembrance, and love.

At River Bend, we walk for our mothers, sisters, daughters, friends — and for every person touched by breast cancer. Together, we keep the hope alive. 💞

NOTHING SAYS FALL LIKE FALL RECOVERY🥰

🌟Every 11 seconds, an older adult is treated in the ER for a fall-related injury, and 1 in 4 adults over age 65 experiences a fall each year — yet fewer than half tell their healthcare provider. Falls are the #1 cause of injury, hospitalization, and loss of independence for older adults. The good news? Up to 30% of falls are preventable with the right approach!!🌟

At River Bend Nursing & Rehabilitation, our Rehab Team doesn’t just respond after a fall — we focus on preventing them before they happen. Our Fall Recovery & Prevention Program combines skilled therapy, nursing care, and proactive risk management to keep our residents strong, steady, and safe.

We go beyond standard screening — addressing often-overlooked contributing factors such as:
✅ Vitamin D & calcium deficiencies that weaken bones and muscles
✅ Medication side effects that cause dizziness or low blood pressure
✅ Vision, footwear, and environmental hazards that increase risk
✅ Cognitive and balance changes identified through individualized therapy assessment

After any fall, our team completes a root-cause analysis to find out why it happened and implement new safeguards. We also teach safe fall-recovery techniques to build confidence and independence.

Fall prevention isn’t a checklist — it’s a well rounded commitment to dignity, safety, and independence!💪🏼
