📚✨ Our first-year OTD students had the incredible opportunity to learn and grow at the Third Annual Parkinson’s Symposium today here in Evansville!

By attending sessions, hearing from experts, and engaging with individuals living with Parkinson’s, students gained valuable knowledge about the condition, treatment strategies, and the importance of collaboration in care. 🧠💡

Even more impactful, they were able to put their learning into action by assisting throughout the event—setting up for the event, supporting activities, and connecting with the Parkinson’s community. 🙌

We are proud of how our students combined education with service, representing USI OT with professionalism and compassion! 💙🦅

Happy Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) Week! Every year on September 1-7, we recognize and celebrate the contributions of advanced practice registered nurses with specialized expertise in a particular area of nursing.

Miranda Wahnsiedler, MSN, BS, AGCNS-BC, RNC-OB, C-ONQS, is a recipient of the 2025 Award of Excellence in Practice, presented by the Association of Women's Health, Obstetrical and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN). This award celebrates nurses who advance clinical excellence and evidence-based care in women’s health, obstetrics or newborn care through innovation and leadership.

She works as the Perinatal Clinical Nurse Specialist for Labor & Delivery/High Risk Antepartum/OBED/Mother Baby units at Ascension St. Vincent Evansville.

Miranda received two nursing degrees from USI: her bachelor of science in nursing (BSN) in 2011 and her master of science in nursing (MSN) in 2016 in the Adult-Gerontology Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) program.

We have some exciting news this week! Congrats to Jordan Thomason, Instructor in Diagnostic Medical Sonography, for receiving the USI Foundation Outstanding Teaching by New Faculty Award. 📚🏆

She earned her bachelor’s degree in diagnostic medical sonography in 2013 and her master’s degree in business administration in 2025, both from USI.

Following graduation, Jordan built a distinguished career in high-risk obstetrics, working at multiple institutions across the country before returning to the Tri-state region to share her expertise with future sonographers. 💓 🩺

She is one of only seven individuals in the U.S.—and the only one in Indiana—certified in abdomen, OB/GYN, pediatric sonography, adult echocardiography, pediatric echocardiography and fetal echocardiography. Her clinical experience, particularly in neonatal intensive care units, fuels her advocacy for early detection of congenital heart defects.

At USI, she is known for her student-first approach, regularly developing innovative projects and delivering up-to-date material that empowers students to lead in their field. Her passion, mentorship and dedication make her an invaluable asset to the DMS program, the Kinney College and the broader healthcare community. ✨
