Hey Class of 2026! Don’t miss the Torch Walk & Senior Sunset! Details below! 👇

Join us for our first annual Torch Walk and Senior Sunset! Walk with fellow alumni and students as we symbolically pass the torch to the next graduates from USI.

We will start in front of the Fuquay Welcome Center, where all seniors will receive a candle. They will be welcomed by Rileigh Holman '13, President of USI Alumni Council. Rileigh will light a ceremonial torch and lead the group on a short walk through campus, which will end at the Gazebo by Reflection Lake and include food, sunset-themed mocktails, music and yard games.

Congratulations to Rebecca Grisham-Whitehouse, a 2017 BSN grad, whose suggestion for a new medication protocol at Deaconess was voted Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP) of the year! When she received the news, one of the first people she contacted was Dr. Susan Seibert, USI Teaching Associate Professor of Nursing.

“Every time I give an unusual med, I hear Susan’s voice telling me we never give meds unless we know what they are for, as well as the five rights of medication administration: right patient, right drug, right dose, right route and right time,” says Rebecca. “Patients with dysphagia diets or NG tubes need to have their medications crushed, but there are several common medications that should never be altered.”

Rebecca’s CHIP suggestion recommends that pharmacy automatically reviews medication lists for those on special diets to determine which pills can be crushed–a critical step to improve patient safety.

At Deaconess, Rebecca is a member of the Nursing Evidence-Based Practice and Research Council. Thank you for helping improve outcomes for patients every day!

Yesterday, we were honored to welcome this year’s Sigma Theta Tau inductees as we celebrated a meaningful milestone in nursing leadership. Induction into this international honor society reflects excellence, integrity and a deep commitment to the nursing profession. This year's organizational call to action is "Lead Together."

A special thank you to our guest speaker, Miranda Wahnsiedler, a two-time USI nursing alum (BSN '11 and MSN '16), who shared her experience as a Perinatal Clinical Nurse Specialist at Ascension St. Vincent Evansville.

Congrats to the newest members of USI's Sigma Nursing- Omicron Psi Chapter!
