Does Day Light Savings time make you and your little ones a little groggy? Blame George Hudson!

Some tips for Springing Forward:

Up to a week before you turn the clock forward, try putting your child to bed about 15 minutes earlier each night, or every couple of nights, to minimize the abruptness of the change.

With a bedtime routine in place, your child should adjust within about a week or two. If it's taking longer than that, talk with your child's pediatrician about whether it's time to speak with a sleep specialist.

Happy Ramadan from our Pediatric Associates Urgent Care clinics!

Although children are not obligated to fast until they have reached puberty, some families may allow children to participate in fasting (sawm) at slightly younger ages. Below are some helpful facts to help keep your children healthy during the Ramadan holiday, which begins Sunday, March 10 to Tuesday, April 9, 2024.

1. Take things slowly by introducing a fasting period of only a few hours if the child is 10 years old or below.
2. For the first meal before fasting, consider eating foods that allow for energy level maintenance and proper nutrition, such as eggs, bread, yogurt, cheese, dates, milk, and fresh or dried fruits.
3. When breaking the fast for the day, consume two dates and a glass of water before enjoying larger delectable meals, which allows the stomach to prepare itself. Choosing nutrient dense foods such as salads, fruits, juices, cutlets, sandwiches, nuts, and rice will help developing bodies during the holiday.
4. Hydration is extremely important, especially for our growing children! Between Iftar and Suhoor, ensure your child drinks plenty of water. Allow for juices, milkshakes, fruits to keep hydration levels sustained.
5. Avoid too many salty or sweet foods and foods that may deplete energy or cause stomach irritation. Sometimes separating delicious meals into two feeding times can help with overindulgence and potential consequences that comes with overeating.

Please let your pediatricians know if your child is fasting during Ramadan so we can continue to provide exceptional healthcare to them.

Ramadan Kareem!
