Dizziness and vertigo can make everyday movement feel unsteady — but targeted vestibular exercises can help retrain how your brain processes balance, vision, and motion.

Three Physical Therapist-approved exercises to improve stability, visual tracking, and confidence with movement:
Exercise 1: Smooth visual tracking while balancing
Exercise 2: Gaze stabilization with horizontal head turns
Exercise 3: Visual scanning + balance + simple cognitive tasks

SLIDE 2 — Long Sitting Flexion with Band

Why it works:
✔️ Targets the calf complex (gastroc + soleus)
✔️ Improves push‑off strength
✔️ Builds control without full body weight
✔️ Great starting point before heel raises
✔️ Supports circulation + flexibility

Focus on:
• Knee straight
• Pull through the forefoot
• Slow, controlled reps

SLIDE 3 — Isometric Calf Hold
Why it works:
✔️ Improves ankle stability
✔️ Builds calf endurance
✔️ Strengthens tendon load tolerance
✔️ Boosts neuromuscular control

Focus on:
• Controlled elevation
• Even weight distribution
• Upright posture

SLIDE 4 — Calf Raises with Ball

Why it works:
✔️ Activates medial calf + tibialis posterior
✔️ Supports arch stability
✔️ Improves balance + foot control
✔️ Great for runners + jumpers

Focus on:
• Stay tall
• Gentle squeeze
• Control the tempo

SLIDE 5 — Eccentric Calf Raise

Why it works:
✔️ Builds tendon capacity (great for Achilles pain)
✔️ Strengthens calves through slow lowering
✔️ Improves ankle stability
✔️ Reduces injury risk

Focus on:
• Up with two
• Down with one
• 3–5 second lower

SLIDE 6 — Calf Raise on Reformer

Why it works:
✔️ Controlled resistance through full ankle range
✔️ Improves calf strength + foot control
✔️ Builds tendon capacity
✔️ Enhances balance + lower‑leg power

Focus on:
• Even weight through forefoot

Cathy OGrady, certified Peri/Menopause Coach, is offering a new strength & learning series, designed specifically for peri & postmenopausal women. Cathy will lead hormone-specific workouts designed to build and retain muscle mass during this particular season of life. Each week will also highlight a topic to help maximize workouts & provide tools to help you SHINE!

☀️Strength + Hormones + Intention + Nutrition + Education = SHINE! ☀️

This 4-week strength series will take place at the Core Sport location (10224 S. Kedzie Ave, Evergreen Park).

Thursdays at 6:30am, April 16, 23, 30 and May 7. $120 for the session.

This could be 🫵 practicing self care by getting a massage with Morgan, our new massage therapist.

Morgan received her massage therapy license in 2009 after getting her BS in Athletic Training from Ball State University in Indiana. She has worked both full and part time as a massage therapist on and off over the years. She has a passion for deep tissue and sports massage, and loves helping athletes recover and get back to their favorite sport.
 
Morgan was born and raised on the southside and lives in Beverly with her husband and daughter. She also works full time as an executive assistant for a national physical therapy company. She enjoys working out, reading, all things organization, and spending time with her family and 2 golden doodles.

Anyone who’s taken an apprentice class in the past has likely heard Terri’s speech… “There are literally zero requirements to teach Pilates. That’s what makes a dedicated student, who invests so much time into learning the method, so special.” With a full, comprehensive training, CORE apprentices get the 450+ hours they need to sit for the national certifying exam.

Terri has trained dozens of apprentices over the years, many who have gone on to take and pass the National Pilates Teacher Certification exam. Best of luck to these two as they make their way through this part of the program! We appreciate all the support and feedback in helping them develop as Pilates teachers! ✨
