How do we be brave right now? There’s something powerful that happens when we choose to do the hard things—not because we have to, but because we know that’s where growth lives. In this episode, we talk about the science and soul of resilience: how doing what’s uncomfortable actually rewires our brains, strengthens our relationships, and expands what’s possible in our lives.

We’re not talking about hustle or burnout—we’re talking about conscious courage. The kind that builds self-trust, deepens love, and reminds us that we can do hard things—and come out stronger, more alive, and more connected.

Let’s go there. Together.

As women, we’re often praised for how much we do, how well we care, and how much we carry. But what happens when we can’t "do it all"—or when we realize doing everything still leaves us feeling empty? This reflection is an invitation to come home to yourself, to honor your worth beyond the hustle, and to reconnect with the sacred art of being.

You’re crushing goals, checking boxes, and showing up for everyone—except yourself. The calendar’s full, the inbox is clear, but your heart feels...empty. Wh...

After all these years of rising early, stumbling often, learning slowly, and loving deeply… this book is my heart on paper.

DIEM: The Art of Every Day was born from my own longing—to live more awake, more aligned, and more alive. It’s a journey of presence, purpose, and peace, and my hope is that it finds its way into your daily rhythm.

May it remind you—like it’s reminded me—that every single day is a chance to begin again.

After a brutal election season, many may feel disheartened by the outcome. In today’s Love & Life Elevated episode, Dr. James and I offer a moment to pause and reconnect with what’s within our control. I received the most unexpected, beautiful message today. It moved me to tears and I am called to share it with you here. Many of you know that during Covid I was out for an afternoon walk when I came upon an unconscious man who had obviously collapsed on the paved walking trail. He was face down with some blood coming from his mouth and when I felt for a pulse, he did not have one. I quickly and carefully repositioned him and began CPR immediately. Paramedics came onto the scene perhaps three to four minutes into my efforts. After defibrillation (shocking him) a few times, they were able to obtain a weak pulse as they loaded him into the ambulance - but I didn't know until about a month later that he had survived. I did not realize that today marked the 4-year anniversary of that remarkable day. To receive this email today brought me to happy tears. Twenty-nine years ago, my dad died of sudden cardiac death and I have always wondered what may have happened if he had received CPR immediately. CPR training is readily available for all of us. If you're not certified, I highly encourage you to put it on the top of your "to do" list. Here's the message that I received:
Dr. Rouse,

On this day, which is the 4 year anniversary of my cardiac arrest in Buchanan Park, I wanted to express my gratitude to you for performing CPR on me that day and saving my life. Though I have no recollection of that day and the events that took place, I know that I would not still be here today without your efforts.

Rehabilitation was difficult for me but I eventually reached a reasonably good level of physical fitness. I run almost every day in Buchanan and Bergen parks, albeit not as fast as I did before the cardiac arrest, but I am very happy to still be running. I enjoy living in Evergreen, traveling around Colorado and visiting all of its scenic places. I am still working full time, but I hope to retire sometime soon.

I want to wish you all the best for a great end to this year and a Happy Holiday Season !! And Thank You once again for all of your efforts on October 29th, 2020.

Whether you're drawn to the deeper esoteric roots of this season or just love a good reason to celebrate, Halloween is so much more than costumes and candy. It’s a time to nourish not only our bodies but also our souls.

This year, I’ve put together a special blog post that explores the ancient traditions of Halloween and includes some creative, healthy recipes to help you embrace the season’s magic. Think of it as a fun way to indulge while staying grounded and vibrant through the festive months ahead!

Naturopathic Medicine is the Past, Present & Future of Healing

I first learned about naturopathic medicine back around 1989 when one of my best friends received a diagnosis of Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, cancer. We were undergraduates at the time and I just couldn’t believe or accept this was happening. Since I had already begun studying herbal medicine and considered myself an amateur nutritionist, I took it upon myself to dive into every alternative that might be a possibility for my friend. During that process of exploration I discovered naturopathic medicine.

You know when you get that all-over, tingly, bodily sensation that tells you something big is about to happen? Or maybe it’s telling you to pay attention - I felt that big time. And I felt it again when I entered the building at National College of Naturopathic Medicine, in Portland, OR, where I ended up in 1992, not only embarking on my path to become a naturopathic physician (although we can’t call us that in Colorado; in Colorado we’re naturopathic doctors), but also where I met and fell in love with my husband, Dr. James Rouse - we graduated together in 1996 and I have been practicing ever since.

Naturopathic medicine considers the whole person - not just the “diagnosis,” the labs, or the current presentation. I look far back into the history to discover the root cause of whatever may be presenting currently and together we devise a path to reclaim your most vital self. I am certified in Peptide Therapy, Microneedling, Bioidentical Hormones, Integrative Mental Health, and studying for certification in IV Therapy, which will be completed mid-March, 2020.

At Holistic Therapies in Evergreen, CO, we offer a wide range of clinical therapeutics, conventional and functional lab testing, herbal and homeopathic medicines, pharmacy grade nutriceuticals, and wellness packages to serve a wide audience of health seekers. I would be honored to serve you on your healing journey.
