The Alabama Rural Hospital Tax Credit portal is officially open.
This program allows individuals and businesses to receive a dollar for dollar Alabama state income tax credit for qualifying contributions made to eligible rural hospitals for the 2026 tax year.
There is a $20 million statewide cap, and credits are issued on a first come, first served basis. Once the cap is reached, no additional credits will be available.
To participate, donors must first reserve their credit through the Alabama Department of Revenue online portal. After the credit is reserved, the contribution is made directly to the hospital. The hospital then provides the required acknowledgment for tax filing purposes.
Given the level of interest across the state, we expect the cap to be reached quickly. Anyone considering participating should act sooner rather than later.
