The wind carries voices, soft yet strong,
Ancestral echoes, an endless song.
Through silent forests, their wisdom flows,
In stillness deep, the Great Spirit knows.
The fire dances, the river sighs,
Dreamcatchers gleam beneath the skies.
Each feather tells where spirits roam,
Each heartbeat leads the soul back home.

What to say when a tragedy like yesterday’s school shooting here in Evergreen strikes a community and leaves us all shell-shocked. I’ve been grappling with that and so many feelings since it happened.

Giving thanks that my own sons are safe. That my friends’ children were not hit by bullets, though some found themselves in the line of fire and may face a long emotional recovery. Praying for the families who were directly hit.

And trying to return to what matters most. Love. Care. Reaching out. Making food for loved ones. Gratitude for our physical safety. Grounding. Being in the calm of nature to soothe the upset soul.

Counting our blessings to be alive, in physical form. And wanting to make the most of the days before our own turn comes to return to the Earth.
