Posted • ginseng_whisperer “So what does acupuncture even do?” is a hot question I often get on the treatment table from my patients.🤷🏻‍♀️ So much 🙌🏽, but here are some of my favourite easy-to-understand :

🔅Strengthens the immune system, increases blood flow and antibody level.
🔅Stimulates endorphins, natural painkillers up to 100x stronger than morphine!
🔅Affects neurotransmitters to help the body cope with stress, depression, anxiety, PTSD and mood disorders.
🔅Affects circulation and restores healthy flow.

Acupuncture is often employed in the treatment of insomnia, high blood pressure, low back pain, migraines, anxiety, depression, allergies, indigestion, menopause, fertility and so much more!

What’s the best thing has done for you? I’d love to hear your stories in the comments below! 💕

Posted • The most comprehensive review of acupuncture research has recently been published, called ‘The state of evidence in acupuncture: A review of metaanalyses and systematic reviews of acupuncture evidence (update 2017-2022)’. The review builds upon the ‘Acupuncture Evidence Project’ which was published in 2016, with an additional 862 high quality studies assessed.

Not only does the review confirm acupuncture’s evidence of positive effect for female fertility but it also confirms evidence of acupuncture’s potential positive effect for:
• breech presentation
• chronic pelvic pain
• dysmenorrhea (painful periods)
• endometriosis
• erectile dysfunction
• in vitro fertilisation (IVF)
• labour pain
• polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS)
• premenstrual syndrome (PMS)

It’s exciting to see the research to have caught up to what we see in clinic everyday ✨

Posted • If you’re going through IVF, acupuncture can be a powerful tool to support your journey. Research and clinical experience show that acupuncture can help improve fertility outcomes by promoting relaxation, enhancing blood flow to the uterus, and balancing hormones.

BUT when is the best time to incorporate acupuncture into your IVF cycle?

Here’s what you need to know:

✔ Before IVF (3 months prior) – Preparing your body before starting IVF can make a significant difference. Acupuncture helps regulate your cycle, improve egg quality, and create an optimal uterine environment for implantation.

✔ During Stimulation – Acupuncture can support ovarian response by increasing blood flow to the ovaries, promoting follicle growth, and reducing stress, which is crucial during this stage.

✔ Before & After Embryo Transfer – This is one of the most crucial moments! Acupuncture before transfer helps relax the uterus, while post-transfer sessions improve implantation and reduce uterine contractions that could affect embryo attachment.

✔ Post-Transfer – Acupuncture can aid early pregnancy by supporting progesterone levels, reducing stress, and increasing blood flow to the uterus, which helps maintain a healthy pregnancy.

If you're on an IVF journey or considering it, acupuncture might be the missing piece to help you feel more balanced and improve your chances of success!

Posted • Acupuncture and chronic pain.

🥼Acupuncture on the NHS is recommended by NICE (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) for managing chronic pain, migraines and headaches. The Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines Network (SIGN) also recommends acupuncture for chronic pain, including lower back pain and knee pain.

Posted • These acupuncture points stimulate the vagus nerve and promote healthy vagal tone. These points can be stimulated with an acupuncture treatment or by self - massage. Read more on the vagus nerve, it’s connection to the parasympathetic nervous system, it’s role in modulating inflammation, immune system, metabolism and emotional regulation, and how to stimulate this nerve to de-stress and promote your body’s relaxation response.

Posted • A research study published in March 2021 shows how the infusion of fluorescent dyes into acupuncture points PC5, PC6, and PC7, in twelve healthy individuals, follows the Pericardium Meridian route.

This is the first study to demonstrate a dynamic relationship between the meridian and an acupuncture point, as well as the simultaneous visualization of both structures in a single test environment.

Through the entire course of observed trajectories, all 15 tracer pathways were within 1 cm distance of the Chinese medicine-defined pericardium channel.

The results support earlier research that showed tracer dyes travel along a straight pattern similar to meridians. Moreover, this study could help in integrating the many anatomical correlates hypothesized for the objective foundation of acupuncture structures.☯💭
