Meet Oatmeal! This 3-year-old Shih Tzu mix has been through more plot twists than a soap opera, but he’s still wagging his tail and looking for his forever co-star.
Oatmeal started off as an unclaimed stray, then was adopted from the Trenton Animal Shelter… only for life to take a tumble (literally — an incident where a child threw him off a slide a week after his adoption left him with a broken leg). Unfortunately, his initial recovery didn’t go smoothly. When his owner's realized they could not give him the care he needed, they reached out to our rescue for help. Thanks to our great veterinarians, he is now on the mend! His one leg will always be a little shorter than the other, but don’t tell Oatmeal that! He struts, zooms, and play bows like he’s in the Olympics. During surgery we also learned that little Oatmeal also has a collapsed lung. He is A-OK but his future Paw-rents should know this in case he ever needs anesthesia again, he vet would need to know this ahead of time!
In his foster home, Oatmeal has become the shadow of his foster mom and his pit bull foster brother! Definite little brother vibes! He’s also totally cool with cats and is learning his house manners like a champ. Bonus: he’s already crate trained, neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccines.
Oatmeal is bouncy, cuddly, and ridiculously loyal—basically the breakfast staple of your dreams. If you’re looking for a small dog with a big heart (and a little extra swagger in his step), Oatmeal is ready to be your main course.
